Are these glasses suitable for hot drinks such as espresso based coffee?

Not tried hot drinks myself, bought them for wine glasses but wife reckons they will be fine. They are toughened glass after all, hard to break but if you do manage to, it will shatter like a car windscreen!

Are these a smoked colour like the picture suggests?

I wouldn't describe them as smoked. They are 'normal' glass coloured. The pattern around the side is probably catching the light in the picture and perhaps making the colour look different. But mine are transparent and clear and I'm very happy with them!
