I purchased the GCSE Music WJEC/Eduqas Complete Revision & Practice book to help my daughter prepare for her GCSE Music exam. The book proved to be very helpful, and she achieved a 9. Strengths: Comprehensive Content: The book covers all areas of the WJEC/Eduqas syllabus in clear and detailed sections. It ensures students are well-prepared for the exam. Practice Questions: The included questions are varied and relevant, helping to build confidence and improve exam technique. Audio Support: The audio materials are a great addition, especially for understanding listening tasks, which are an important part of the exam. Online Access: The online edition adds flexibility, allowing access to resources from different devices. Limitations: Pace of Content: Some sections are quite dense, and younger or less confident students may need additional explanation beyond what is provided. Design: The layout is functional but could benefit from a more engaging design to hold attention better. Conclusion: This is a thorough and reliable resource for GCSE Music students. It provides the tools needed to revise effectively and perform well in the exam, though it may require additional support for students who find the subject challenging. Excellent Revision Guide. The review from my daughter sitting GCSE Music said that it was an excellent revision guide and certainly supported her to prepare for the GCSE exams

I played the violin as a child but barely remember any music theory or can read sheet music as proficiently as I use too. Someone recommended GCSE music content as a life hack for more simplified easy to digest music theory on a music forum and I couldn’t agree more. A lot of the stuff is written in notation format so you can study it directly or refer back to it when watching online tutorials. Parents, remember every child learns differently. As someone who their instrument down due to the pressure from adults around me, ask if the guidebook works for their style of learning before purchasing. Focus on comprehension and application rather than memorisation and regurgitation. GCSE’S are stressful enough. As long as you cultivate culture that encourages a life long love for learning I’m sure they’ll do great regardless of what resources they prefer to study from. Great guide for music students whether you’re 15 or 50yo.

I always like these CGP revision guides. They are condensed so you can rapidly brush up on the key details from across the syllabus, and also get a good overview of a topic prior to lessons, if you are keen. The material is not just summarised, but good use of layout, colour and underlining makes it really quick to skim down to find the detail you want. Learning, and in particular revision, is best when you force yourself to recall the material. It's really easy to read a section and think, "Yeah, I know that", but it's much harder when you cover the answers up and ask yourself what the categories, points or details are before revealing them to see if you got them right. So make sure you revise this way! The material is split into eight sections, covering basic music theory and instrument types, musical forms, and then sections on ensemble, film music and popular/modern music. Each section has a revision summary, some easy questions and some sample exam questions. At the end is a full practice paper. Note that this guide attempts to cover the syllabus from more than one exam board, so at various points it states that certain material is only required for one or other exam boards. My copy did get slightly mangled during shipping, but it's still perfectly usable and I can't blame CGP or criticise the book itself for this: that's the luck of the draw. If you are sitting the exam and want to do well, I would highly recommend picking up a copy of this and spending a good amount of time revising from it alongside your lesson notes.

I never had the opportunity to study music at school, but I really wish I had. I do play a lot of instruments, but only self taught, so despite being for teenagers, this is actually really handy for me and puts some facts into the mix. There's a lot here, and I would imagine it would be very helpful for those who are studying GCSE. It's a nice weighty book, A4 sized and 190 pages. The book covers a lot of things from the basic of chords, to the circle fifths. It also includes QR codes for that little bit extra. The papers are well designed, easy to read and attractive. It's paperback, so it's slightly expensive at £14.99 but this is something I can say is well worth it, as knowledge is priceless. It's also good to keep faces away from phones with a traditional book, somewhat at least, as it does have online parts to it as well. I'm very happy with it!

Though I got this for my teenage daughter who is in her first year of music gcse, I have been reading through it on the odd occasion to brush up on my very rusty music knowledge! According to my daughter, it's a great text to have to hand and it's just what she needs. Yet, as her parent I find it a great as it runs through all the basics at the beginning regarding the fundamentals of the subject, so I can keep up with her (for a bit, anyway!) This is an accessible and approachable text that is valuable for this very active gcse, and I'm more than happy to recommend it for all.
