Works really well!!!
Reading is my mom's favorite thing to do but she's go ARMD in her one good eye and her reading vision seems to get blurry more often these days. The doctor recommended she try to get as much light and magnification as possible on her reading material. She was already reading large print books and using a table top book stand, high intensity reading lamp over her shoulder, a handheld magnifying page, and a hand held magnifying glass. But they weren't enough. Using this new stand with its built in light has really helped. She was straining so hard to read and getting so frustrated and depressed before. She's so much happier now. It's removed a lot of the struggle to see the words clearly. We got her reading table and chair set up so her book stand, her reading lamp, and the new magnifying stand are all angled for optimal benefit, and she can now read quite easily without a lot of fuss/constant adjustments (as with the hand held magnifiers). The magnifying stand does have to be carefully adjusted so it's parallel to the page for best results (as other reviewers have mentioned), but that's easy with the book stand keeping the reading material steady and at a consistent angle. I also second the recommendation of others to cover the stand when not in use - if it's anywhere near a window and the sun might possibly hit it some time during the day, it does concentrate the light and I can see where it might create a fire hazard. Mom uses a pillow case to cover hers when not in use. The magnifier is a good size and she can see both pages of the book at once (or she slides the book stand side to side slightly if needed). I do wish it had a few more lights. I can see the day when the existing ones may not be bright enough to help enough. There was a similar stand on Amazon with more lights/greater illumination, but the size of the magnifier was a lot smaller. I opted for this one so she wouldn't have to constantly be moving the book or the magnifier for each page, which she was already doing with the hand helds. Hopefully someone will sell a lighted magnifying stand at least this size with greater illumination by the time mom needs it.

This Is A Wonderful Lamp With A Magnifing Lens And Light!
This came tightly packed. You may want to look at the video on the product page of how to put it together. The magnifying lens it large. I use it for very fine needlepoint. However I tested 2 different books under it and found no problems with distortion of what I was reading. The thing which concered me the most was the stability of the the entire lamp. The base is sturdy, but I turn the lamp top away from me when I am not using it. It involves truning the lens about 1/4 of a circle. The entire lamp remains stable and none of the parts come loose. I am very happy with this lamp. RG

It works nicely, but won't buy a resale again!
The product itself works nicely. I am already enjoying the ability to read without holding a magnifier. The fact that the post is simply inserted into the base is a bit awkward since one cannot pick up the "gooseneck" portion of the lamp and move it without the post becoming disconnected from the base. The parts that had to be screwed into each other proved to be a bit challenging since some of the thread parts turned and I had to hold them with pliers to connect. This was a "new" lamp, but had been returned for some reason and was discounted a bit--which was my incentive to purchase it. The packaging was really bad and the Styrofoam came apart when I opened the box and overall I had Styrofoam particles all over the floor. The device itself was literally stuffed into the box in whatever manner necessary to re-mail it. In the future, I will pay full price and purchase totally new to avoid risking a mess.

This amazing magnified light has given me back the activities I enjoy and need!
This magnified, self-supporting light (floor base) has brought me a new outlook on what I can do for myself again. I suffer with macular degeneration challenges that has began taking away my joy of reading and doing my nails - this light has brought back much joy in reading again and doing tasks I no longer could do. It is built of high quality and has very sturdy nice base that doesn't tumble over. It can be used in various positions, just for lighting or for helping with difficult to see tasks. I can look forward to hobbies again!

Light is not bright. I have to use a second light source for cross stitching.
I weigh the base so it does not tip. I have to use a secnd light source when I cross stitch. The magnifier is large but made of plastic, not glass. I find it is difficult to position my project so that I get adequate light along with adequate magnification. I have to search for the right spot under the magnifier to get a good view of my stitching area. It is a good product as far as providing a larger field of magnification, but the light is poor for my need and every time I try to move the lamp closer, it will tip if not weighted down. The arm is not easy nor flexible enough to reposition. This product has great potential, but needs redesigning to provide much better light and clearer magnification.

Keep shopping.
I was super excited to get this lamp. I was looking for a magnifying lamp while I do cross stitch. I wanted a full size screen instead of wearing glasses on the end of my nose. 1. The cord is too long. In trying to assemble (screw poles together), you must feed at least a foot or more of extra cord. Unfortunately there is no place in the base to pull the extra cord out of your way once poles are assembled. So must feed wires into tube while assembling. 2. Once you have fought the cords while stuffing into tubes during assembly, dont think about moving it afterwards. Once you attempt to pick up the lamp to move it into its working location, the first pipe is not threaded into base, just slips in. You guessed it. It also just slips out of the base and pulling all the stuff cords back out. 3. So assembly in place.

Great gift she loved it.
It was all she wanted. She had seen it for more dollars in the little magazine. I was happy to find it here. She is not able to stop squinting and contorting to get in good light. The has great magnification and the lights are intense. Just be ware not to let sunlight shine through it as it will transmit heat and start a fire. Make a hood cover for it. Just the right height for a person in a recliner and not tippy.

Biggest c/o was sagging gooseneck
Pole inserted in base but easily dislodged. Gooseneck sagged when position of comfort found. Did not stay in place.

Ideal for cross stitch project I'm working on
Bought this to enlarge cross stitch project I'm working on. Works great. Not sure how long the bulbs will last, hopefully long lasting. Very satisfied with purchase.

Good quality for money spent.
Product was easy to assemble, except for excess wire. It was a little difficult to shove up the main tube. Light was bright, magnification was excellent, and the gooseneck was very flexible and sturdy.

Itโs very sturdy but not for what I needed it for
It looks like it would be good in certain jobs but not suitable for what I needed it for
