RoyalBaby EZ Kids Bike, 12-20 Inch Balance & Pedal, Safer for Beginners

With our daughter about to turn seven, we realized that it was time to officially retire her 12" You&Me pink bike and upgrade. After literally hours of searching reviews online, we had narrowed it down to this model and a Diamondback 16" bike. We chose the RoyalBaby 16" model in orange. I sat down and read every single review of this bike, and I would like to address what seemed to be the most popular complaints: * "Too heavy!" - Not sure what these parents are comparing this bike to. I kept checking the shipping weight to see if I missed something and the "2" in the "28 lbs" was actually a 3 or a 4...but nope, I was right. Then, thinking about the mess of returning this large object, I ran out to the shed to see how heavy her 12" bike was. I picked it up...then I picked up my 20lbs bar bell...then I picked it up again. I estimated her bike to be maybe 3-5 lbs heavier than my weight. When the RoyalBaby bike arrived a day early (gotta love Prime!) I assembled it and picked it up. Boy, was I relieved when I easily hoisted it up with one arm. This bike maybe weighs around 25lbs, which is perfect for our 7 year old girl. She's already fallen and can easily hoist the bike back up on her own. To all those complainers, go spend another $100 and buy an aluminum frame bike for your kids. * "Wheels don't spin freely" - This was also a big concern of mine, as I am a stickler about quality control at the factory level. During assembly, I flipped the bike over and checked out both wheels. They did feel a bit "sticky" at first, and didn't roll to a stop. First off, fellow parents, please make sure you read all the directions before you begin, if you're not mechanically inclined. One thing I noticed was that the front caliper brakes needed to be adjusted, as they were rubbing slightly against the tire, creating that "imbalanced" sound when spinning the wheel quickly. I scanned the directions, and it had some instructions about how to adjust the front brakes. A few minutes later, no rubbing. The rear wheel also felt a bit sticky and had a bit of a rubbing sound also...but then I realized that you must turn it (when upside down) with the pedals fully forward and engaged. If the coaster brake is engaged in the slightest, you can hear it rubbing as the wheel turns, so take note. With an adjusted brake, the front wheel spun much easier, and almost rolled to a stop...there was some resistance still, but I figured with weight on the wheels right-side-up, resistance would be negligible. As the directions suggest, make sure you lube all moving parts periodically. I grabbed some 3 in 1 oil and some auto grease and lubed everything up. It felt like the wheels were just "out of the box" stiff, and began to loosen up a bit on their own. Which leads me to the next con to address... * "Wheels out of true" - This one was concerning because it was mentioned by a few reviewers who claimed to have experience in bike assembly, maintenance, and repair. I didn't really know what they meant by "true", so I did some Google research and realized they meant balanced, with a straight rim. Here is where I almost docked a star. Both wheels were out of true and that was part of the reason they didn't spin as freely as I had expected initially. As I spun the wheels, you could see both of them needed adjustment, as they bowed left and right with several "bubbles" causing the rim to wobble considerably as it spun. However, after reading about "truing" a bicycle wheel, I found that it was pretty straightforward: You just adjust the spoke studs at their base, right above the rim, with a spoke wrench. This bike's spokes are a size 13 according to my $9 spoke wrench I purchased on Amazon. Once I figured out tightening the spokes was counterclockwise, in about 10 minutes I had both wheels very close to true and they spun much easier! My daughter even mentioned that the bike seemed to ride much smoother after my adjustments. Since I was able to correct the issue, and I'm pretty sure that places like Wally World and Target don't "true" their bikes prior to purchase, I decided not to dock a star. * "Royal Baby All Over The Bike = Not Cool!" - I totally get this one for the kids who want to be big boys and girls. However, after easily peeling off a few decals, and throwing out the ridiculous stickers that come with it, this bike only says "RoyalBaby" in two places...the seat and the center of the handlebars. Even the company logo on the front of the frame has a predominant crown where you can't even see the small print "RoyalBaby" unless you stick your face right up to the forks. The company name on the tire tread is black on black so unless you're looking closely at the tires, you can't tell. This bike has definitely passed the cool test with our 7 year old daughter! * "Missing Parts" - Bike came with all the parts. * "Pedals won't screw on/break easily" - This one may change after a few months of use, so I'll keep an eye on it and update, if necessary. However, I had no issues with the pedals, they screwed onto the crank arms just fine (take note that the left hand pedal must be tightened counter-clockwise). * "Water bottle is cheap" - Have to agree with this one, unfortunately, as it already is cracked and leaking. However we have several bicycle water bottles in our home and they all fit snugly in the holder, which is made of metal and bolts to the frame. Not enough of an issue to warrant docking a star, in my opinion. * "Chain falls off" - Chain was nice and tight and has not come off, yet. Besides, the rear axle sits in a groove which allows you to slide it backwards or forward to adjust the tension in the chain, which apparently, some of these reviewers failed to realize. * "Tires won't hold air" - I inflated tires to 35 psi 4 days ago and they are still full. I was a bit apprehensive about purchasing this bike, but so far, it seems to be a home run. We can't keep her off of it, she even just likes to sit on it when she can't ride! The frame seems to be solid, well made, and has quality frame welds. The color scheme of the orange and black with the white seat really looks sharp! Heck, I would rock this bike, if I fit! After truing the wheels,it was definitely a relief to see her get up to speed and coast almost the entire length of the sidewalk. She also loves the big, thick black tires. I also really like that it comes with a kickstand and a quick-adjust seat, which makes sizing it for her a breeze! In conclusion, we are very happy with this bicycle. With a little time taken to read the instructions and make some basic adjustments, this bike seems more than capable of providing our kids with years of good riding. UPDATE 12-18-2015: After reading my review, the company sent me a replacement water bottle, free of charge. Very nice customer service, in my opinion. Bike has performed flawlessly so far...

The pedal off feature is alone worth the price. My 9 y/o was very hesitant after she fell from her previous bike few years back. She refused to try the bike without training wheels and even then was not really excited about riding altogether. It took a little convincing to get her try this bike without pedals as balancing bike. Once she learned that she could prevent any fall by simply putting her feet down. she got confident. It took about 1.5 weeks to ride bike herself!! The bike is very well built. It came about 75% pre-assembled. Assembly wasn't hard and instructions are fairly good. There are few things that could be improved. 1. The only brake is front wheels. no rear wheel brakes!! This puzzles me. Both sides have brakes but they both are front. front brakes are risky for a new learner regardless. I wonder if it was an error. Regardless, the bike should include rear brakes. 2. Only height can be adjusted for seat not the distance from the handle bar. It was difficult to maintain straight posture especially while learning since she couldn't reach the handles without reaching. 3. The bike is on heavier side. It's not unusual for bikes in this price range so I won't hold it against the manufacturer. It'd be great if it was lighter but not a deal breaker by any means. I'd highly recommend this bike for any kid.

This bike is an absolute game-changer. The 2-in-1 design lets your child start using it as a balance bike, and then you can click the pedals right on without any tools once they are ready. It is lightweight, very well-made, and took less than 15 minutes to assemble out of the box. Absolutely worth the money!

I bought this bicycle for my son, and he absolutely loves it! The bike is great quality, and he especially loves the water bottle that came with it. I had a small issue with the inner tube, but Royalbaby’s customer service was excellent. I called and emailed them, and they were very helpful and promptly mailed me a replacement tube. We got the bike back up and running in no time! I’m very happy with the product and the customer service. I highly recommend this bicycle to everyone!

The bicycle is sturdy, looks great, and rides smoothly. Downsides: it’s pretty heavy, and the training wheel bolt can loosen easily, so you’ll need to tighten it now and then. Other than that, it’s been pretty good.

Ok let me start by saying this is the 3rd bike I have purchased for my son in the last 2 summers. I got him a Schwinn for his first bike and the part where the pedals connect to the bike fell apart after a few months of use. So I bought a bike at Walmart and that bike again fell apart the same way after a few months of regular use, not abuse. So for my son’s 6th birthday I researched on Amazon and read a lot of reviews and decided on this bike. I am so happy with this bike and my son loves it too. Let me explain. This bike is solidly built and feels very nice to handle. Set up was a breeze. The best part of this bike is the ease with my son learning to ride without the training wheels. We had him ride it like it suggests without the pedals on and after he was zooming around with the use of his legs, we popped on the pedals which is a super easy to put on and take off. After 2 days he was riding this bike without the training wheels and we are so proud. My son was so happy to be riding his bike like a big boy and can now ride with his big sister and keep up. I am so thoroughly impressed with the quality of this bike and the ease of learning to ride without training wheels. It’s worth the extra money to buy this bike versus the cheaper alternatives online. The bike is well built and should last a long time. Seats and handle bars are easy to adjust as your child grows too. The bike is super nice looking in person and certainly helps a child learn to ride without training wheels super quickly and successfully. I wish I had bought this bike the first time around as my son would surely had been off training wheels even sooner then 6 y/o. Don’t hestitate, this picky mom approves and I highly recommend this to other parents with kiddos who need a solid bike especially one for learning without the training wheels. We have had this bike for a month and my son uses it almost every day and it rides and looks just like it did when we first got it. Will update if anything changes since I rely on others reviews for making educated purchases on items. Update: We are now a little of 3 months of owning this bike and regular use. It is still holding up strong. Nothing has started to weaken or fail on us. The part where the pedals attach on to that moves the wheels with the pedal movement is still solid and sturdy. No signs of breakage like our other bikes did by this time. Still extremely happy with this bike and have recommended it to a few other parents who were happy to hear about this awesome bike. Hope this helps. 😊 Update: This was our second summer with this bike. My son loves it and it still looks and rides great. I just am so happy buying bikes every couple months is no longer a trend i’m stuck in. This bike will certainly last until he has outgrown it. This has been a great purchase. It allowed my son to learn to ride without training wheel within days and has been a great bike almost daily use. Cannot go wrong with this one. Hope this helps you in making a decision if this bike is for you. I highly recommend to everyone with kids especially ones who want to get beyond training wheels.

Great bike to learn on

This bike worked like magic as my daughter learned to ride a bike within a couple of days. I was teaching her to ride a bike with training wheels, and she struggled on that bike and never learned to ride it. I think training-wheeled bikes are the worst idea for kids learning to ride a bike. I bought this RoyalBaby Ez Kids Bike and told her to use her legs to push the bike forward and glide/coast for a few meters. She learned to balance the bike and started coasting a few meters at a time. After she learned to balance and coast, I put the paddles in (they attach with a snap - no tools required) and she transitioned to paddling and balancing in one or two goes. I recommend this bike for every kid.

This bicycle has been an amazing choice for my 6-year-old daughter! Without training wheels, it has been perfect for helping her build confidence and improve her balance while riding. Not an easy bike for learners because of the position of the pedals, but the rest is ok and the pedals are really easy to remove or add for any kid learning.

LO BUENO: La bicicleta es muy vistosa, los detalles son buenos y es muy funcional. El "bote de agua" es bastante práctico. Las ruedas de asistencia son muy estables y se pueden ir ajustando para incrementar el equilibrio. Tiene freno de mano y también de pedal, con lo que el niño puede aprender los dos sistemas de frenado. Se ensambla muy fácil, solo se deben instalar las ruedas de asistencia, el manubrio y los pedales. Las llantas vienen infladas. A mi muchacho le gustó mucho. LO MALO: Solo presenta el freno de la mano izquierda. Tardó mucho en llegar, y cuando al fin lo hizo el transportista fue un poco latoso en la entrega; sin embargo, si eres paciente tendrás una buena bici.

Easy to assemble for a bike. The bike itself is very good quality. Our 3 year old loves it.

My son just got this for his 6th birthday. He was very happy with it. Very sturdy and has lot of neat features. The kick stand was nice and the water bottle and holder was a hit. Cant wait to watch him ride it this summer!
