Born in Mexico in 1907, Frida Kahlo learned about suffering at an early age. She fell victim to polio at the age of six, and was then seriously hurt in a bus accident at eighteen, resulting in injuries that affected her for the rest of her life. The young and indomitable Frida met Diego Rivera, the great mural painter, when Mexico was at a great cultural and political crossroads. They formed a legendary partnership, with a strong attachment to Mexican folk art, a deep commitment to the Communist struggle and a raging artistic ambition that survived all the trials of their marriage. Admired by the Surrealists and photographed by the greatest, Frida was most renowned for her self-portraits and unusual still lifes. Because it was second hand (ex library) some of the stickers on the book covered the pics. I was deeply immersed in reading about the fascinating life of Frida, and her political surroundings which involved figureheads such as Rivera and Trotsky. I had bought this book after enjoying the film. The book includes many extracts from her diary, with images of her work, herself, her family, friends and Rivera's work. A slight letdown to the book is that there are descriptions of works within the commentary of the book however no images to reference the text at times. However this evokes more curiousity in me to buy another book at Frida's work.

Great Frida Khalo book
I’ve not finished it yet but enjoying it. It’s very comprehensive and there are lots of great quality colour photos included. Because it was second hand (ex library) some of the stickers on the book covered the pics. Nice size to carry around

Highly Recommend.
Always been intrigued by Frida Kahlo’s paintings but didnt know anything about her life. I found this book such a fascinating read, to think she died at the age i am now is so sad. The book helped me understand her paintings at a much deeper level knowing how her life inspired her art. Definitly worth a read.
