Confused by Mixed Reviews?
Looking for a coffee maker I came across this Dualit percolator and was completely bemused by the mixture of "love it" and "loathe it" reviews. After humming and haying for a bit I decided to take a chance and order it. I've never owned/used a percolator before so I think I'm a fair benchmark of the product. Armed with a bag of Taylors of Harrogate coffee from Sainsburys, I set about making my first brew (after following the instructions of boiling and discarding a full kettle's worth of water first). The coffee holder is easy to fill and a little escapes through the holes - but nothing significant. Having turned it on and left it (slightly distracted by the rugby world cup) I came back and poured a cup of hot, steaming, perfectly clear water. Hmmm, a re-read of the instructions led me to believe that I had not correctly housed the metal tube that transports the hot water up to the coffee compartment, paying a bit more attention I re-affixed everything and turned it back on and this time saw some reassuring brown liquid bubbling through the clear plastic bit on top. I poured the coffee through a tea strainer and only got a few specs of grounds. The coffee was piping hot and really good - especially once you find the correct amount of coffee to suit your taste. I've used it for 3 weeks now and am delighted with it. I've not kept coffee hot for more than 30 minutes so can't comment on how that turns out. I'm totally mystified as to how people can have had such a bad experience; fill the jug with water, add the desired amount of coffee, put the metal tube (correctly) in its housing and the coffee compartment through that and put the lid on then flick the switch. Fresh brewed tasty coffee in no time. Update: 9 months after purchase and I'm still very happy with the percolator. No repeat of my first boiled water mistake and consistently excellent coffee each time and I can now confirm that it keeps the coffee piping hot effectively. Thoroughly recommended. Update: over 5 years later and still percolating away satisfactorily. Minor complaint that the lines inside showing the amount of water in cups are difficult to see due to the coffee stains, but that aside, an excellent purchase.

The Dualit Truth....Buy the Best and Enjoy the Best
I spent hours researching this product due to the conflicting reports. They ranged from "rubbish" to "outstanding". As I am a Dualit brand lover ( I have their kettle, toaster and grinder) I decided to go with my confidence in using these goods with many years of faultless service. I am glad I did, and I just do not know why all the complainers have had problems. Obviously some have purchased "knockoffs", cheap copies made abroad. Buy from a legitimate source like Amazon and that removes that problem. I just followed the instructions ( very simple to understand) and use a good quality bean. From the first cup it was great, and with a little fine tuning I am sure I will be 100% happy, a cup of coffee made to my demanding criteria. I just do not understand how people report producing a flavourless almost transparent brew. Just follow the instructions and you will have NO problems. I cannot wait to try other beans. The unit cleans up very easily and quickly, almost under a running tap. Who needs a dishwasher when this only takes a minute or two at most? I recommend grinding your own beans, so you have total control over the brew. I use my Dualit grinder, set on 5 cup capacity, percolator size grind and fill the percolator up to 5 cup water line. This provides a good two mugs size of coffee for when I am just brewing for myself. Dualit brand items in my opinion are worth every penny, they are consistant, spares are readily available and they perform as advertised. They are a pleasure to use, and as I consume at least four mugs of ground coffee daily, enjoying every mouthfull, please endulge yourself and buy the best!

Good and bad.
I've had very many coffee percolators over the years, and this one was the best for two reasons. Firstly, the lid is very secure and robust. With almost every other pecolator that I have owned, the lid broke very easilly. Secondly, it keeps the coffee very hot. With every other pecolator the coffee is only lukewarm. However, this percolator stopped working after only 19 months. I'm going to buy another one, but only because there is no alternative. If I could get a Russell Hobbs percolator intead, I would. But nobody sells them.

Great looks and good coffee with distinctive taste but minimum 2 very large cups a time
Nice design and good quality and finish. Looks good with Dualit tea kettle. Much hotter coffee than Nespresso machines. More "cooked" taste than from brewers. Taste is pretty sensitive to dosage. Negatives: Minimum quantity that I have managed to make is 2 medium sized tea mugs. Otherwise the percolation does not start. The box says 1-10 cups so not quite correct in my experience. No on/off button. Neutral: Pretty easy to clean, same time as a coffee brewer.

We've had this for a couple of years now and love it. Typical Dualit quality ( very good indeed) and easy to use. If you like real percolated coffee, I can recommend this.
