## Description

The Unofficial Guide to Radiology' has been endorsed by the Royal College of Radiologists, The British Institute of Radiology and the British Medical Association. It teaches systematic analysis of the three main types of X-rays: chest, abdominal and orthopedic, with additional chapters looking at all the other main radiology tests such as CT and MRI. The layout is designed to make the book as relevant to clinical practice as possible; the X-rays are presented in the context of a real life scenario. The reader is asked to interpret the X-ray before turning over the page to reveal a model report accompanied by a fully annotated version of the X-ray. To further enhance the clinical relevance, each case has 5 clinical and radiology-related multiple-choice questions with detailed answers. These test core knowledge for exams and working life, and illustrate how the X-ray findings will influence patient management. This book has relevance beyond examinations, for post graduate further education and as a day-to-day reference for professionals.

Review: but An Unofficial Guide to Radiology provides you with a framework to rely on when presenting imaging which is both systematic a - Being asked to present an X-ray is generally a terror-inducing moment for the medical student (and junior doctor), but An Unofficial Guide to Radiology provides you with a framework to rely on when presenting imaging which is both systematic and easy to remember. The book is divided into sections based on imaging type, starting with plain films of chest and abdominal imaging before progressing through orthopaedics and into specialised imaging modalities such as CT scans and MRIs. The quality of the images used in the book are exceptionally high, allowing you to appreciate subtle detail in a way rarely possible with printed radiographs. Each image is coupled with a clinical case and an annotated version on the following page – telling the reader what they should have spotted and how to describe it. This is also accompanied by several exam-style questions, which helps make every case invaluable for revision. An Unofficial Guide to Radiology is a book that can accompany every doctor throughout their career as it provides detailed examples of the most common conditions in each speciality with a range of complexity. This ensures that the book remains relevant to the trainee doctor.
Review: Highly recommended! - This book is a fantastic resource for any medical student or junior doctor! It teaches the reader how to systematically analyse radiological images in a clear and concise way and to become familiar with common clinical presentations. It covers not only X-rays, but also CTs, MRIs and some other modalities such as ultrasound scans. The images are of very good quality and the presentation of the book is great. As a final year medical student I still refer to the book on a regular basis and I am certain I will continue to do so when I qualify. I find the 'Key Points' provided throughout each chapter particularly handy and the quizzes at the end of each chapter help to consolidate your knowledge.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Brilliant thorough introduction for students
*by G***Y on 11 June 2014*

First things first, the book is great. Very concise introduction to each system with examples of how common pathologies (e.g. pleural effusion, mass, consolidation) appear on CXR. Then onto a whole bunch of cases, with big A4 X-ray images and some questions (with detailed answers). I'm sure every student has had the awkward 'tell me what you see on this CXR' from a consultant on the ward, followed by the inevitable jumble of hopelessness. I can only assume the rest of the sections are as good! Had one or two problems however. The book arrived with a few damaged pages (ink), messaged the seller (on Facebook of all places) and got a new one sent the next day, so excellent customer service. I mean, problems happen, it's how you deal with them that really matters!
