The LEGO Trains Book

I have received my copy and appreciate the effort put into it. The first part is a good primer for almost anybody working with LEGO and sort of reminds me of the Master Builder Academy, but condensed into the essentials. The history section is nice and allows people to see where LEGO trains have come from and identify various sets and parts from the 60's on. The part where various techniques for building trains is a boon to all and exceptionally detailed. I love how it's accomplished in the old school method of instructions. All told, an excellent work that will appeal to novices and seasoned builders alike.

This book is very enjoyable to read, despite it not being really current. (Many more models have been added since publication)If yearly additions were possible it would make it a reference book of the first importance.It is not really accessible to a young reader (say <15?) without solid support from an adult.It opened my eyes to the existence of an existing supply network for spare parts and out of catalog parts. Very useful.In the end, I would say the book is for the advance aficionado.

My grandson is a serious train fanatic and has more legos than you could ever imagine. This was the perfect birthday present for him. Lots of colorful pics. and details on how to build individual trains in the back of book. Very satisfied with the product and the service. Thank you!

Book has some great insights into building your own train, however the techniques used seemed somewhat dated from today's lego set offering and some of the great creations people post out in various lego fan websites, was hoping to see some advanced techniques to model more modern trains and cars.

You have to really like Lego trains to enjoy this and then again it is still to specific towards certain building techniques only. Doesn't cover entire Lego train history

Saw this and knew it was the perfect gift for son. He loves Lego's and trains. Wonderful book with pictures and info. If you have a train lover that is also into Lego's, its decent priced and a fun read.

Bought this for my 8 year old who loves trains and Lego. Very detailed on the history of Lego trains.

A detailed, attractive hardback book of Lego trains full of full colour photos. There is a photographic history of Lego trains from the primitive push along “blue era” 60s and 70s, through the 9v and 12v “grey era” to modern Power Functions.The book contains a guide to advanced building techniques. Some of these I worked out as a seven year old (three flat tiles are the same height as a standard brick), others less obvious (studs not on top). The more intricate techniques are often used in Lego’s modern Creator range. The book continues into a guide for building your own trains.The final section is step by step instructions for building four models. I found this far less useful, all the models are complicated using a large number of awkward parts. Though some people might find the ideas are useful to adapt to their own brick collections, almost no one will own enough bricks to actually build them. Given that the last section is almost half the book (100 pages) I would have much preferred to have something else instead, perhaps a photo glossary of all the sets released over the years.This book is well worth owning, despite the largely pointless last section. Note that this is definitely aimed at more advanced builders, adults or older children (though my four year old enjoyed looking at the pictures).

Lovely informative book - bought for our 12-tear-old son who is a massive Lego fan and he has been going backwards and forwards from page to page totally fascinated. Great fun and has kept him busy for hours!
