**Q: can these kits be painted and then assembled**
A: Yes and no they do tend to look dull and miserable unless you use good modelling paint with an undercoat and a gloss finish or possibly varnish, I personally find that other people prefer the natural wood finish

**Q: The mechanism is very stiff, is there any advice to get it working smoothly? Thanks!**
A: Using a fine sandpaper,  smooth all surfaces, including sides of gear where they may rub. Also ensure all gear teeth are clean. Then wax all rubbing surfaces. Work all mechanisms well and it will become freer.
