Nice price and quick to install but documentation could still be a little better
Being ever so slightly undersized versus rival units makes it a breeze to use as a replacement for an existing extractor that's had its day The basic VX100 version just needs a switched live and a neutral The switched live is usually from the room light switch The VX100T timer version needs a permanent live as well as the neutral and the switched live to operate Once the room light has been switched on the extractor will kick in from the switched live feed It'll run from this until the switched live coming from the room light switch is turned back off, and then: Stop immediately if its the basic VX100 or if its the VX100T continue to run from the permanent live for a preset amount of time Wiring up the timer version: On the VX100T the mains connection on my unit is via the three connector terminal at bottom left of the photo: permanent live is the brown on the left neutral is the black in the middle switched live is grey on the right Adjusting how long it continues to run after lightswitch is turned off: This is set using the blue adjustment pot towards centre top of the image With the arrow pointing top right (eg 1 o'clock position) it will continue to run for minimum amount of time after light is switched off, with the adjuster turned clockwise to point top left (11 o'clock position) it will run for maximum time possible after light is switched off or can be set to any position in between Trouble is the manual isn't clear which way around the adjuster is AND states that the minimum time is 30 seconds In reality the minimum possible was 1 min 30 seconds which results in a bit of head-scratching during setup when 30 seconds go by and it carries on spinning and spinning and spinning... So the manual could do with being a little better but overall its a nice n cheap extractor that's quick to retrofit not overly noisy and does the job

Inexpensive and good looking - just one oversight
Bought this to replace a 26-year-old extractor which had gone yellow with age, and was letting down the look of my recently redecorated bathroom. I was surprised at how cheap this was (just over £10 for the standard unit); it is a lot sleeker and better looking than the one it replaced. The fan is fairly quiet when first turned on; after a few minutes it does get a little louder (or perhaps this is a characteristic of mine). However, this doesn’t bother me as it is no louder than the unit it replaced. I guess an assessment of the noise is subjective, depending on what it is being compared to. Fitting was very straightforward with the exception of one major oversight. On the basic model, the terminals in the choc block are not labelled as L and N; the instruction manual does not make it clear either. To air on the side of caution I telephoned the manufacturer (Xpelair is a subsidiary of Glen Dimplex, the telephone number is within the packaging). They advised me that the terminals should have been labelled (?!), and that the Live feed is the left hand/top terminal, the neutral is the right/bottom one. I have taken a photo and labelled it up to assist future customers. This is a huge oversight on an otherwise great product; I imagine that wiring it up incorrectly would probably damage the unit. Anyway, having installed the unit I am very impressed. This was not an expensive product - I spent more on two coffees and a slice of cake the other day - however, on the other hand, it is a very simple product consisting of a basic electric motor and some plastic blades! So would I expect to pay much more? Probably not! I don’t expect this to last forever, however as things currently stand I am pleased with it. It looks fantastic and is much more aesthetically pleasing than the older, bulkier models. Does what it says on the tin; would recommend. Will come back to this review in 3-4 months and report on whether it is still working.

Great value fan - Here are some tips for installation & maintenance
Saw this on screwfix for £25 and almost went for it before checking and finding it here for only £12 so already a bargain. The fan is generally quite cheap in feel but this isnt an issue once installed and the flush front is very neat as there is minimal plastic protruding from the wall/ceiling. Few installation tips the PCB board can be easily lifted out of place and this makes attaching the mains wires MUCH easier, the through hole is quite narrow so you'll probably have to shed the wire (especially for the timer model with 3 wires) The timer adjustment isn't clear in the instructions but just remember clockwise for longer time and anticlockwise for shorter time and this can be adjusted by hand. Finally another reviewer highlighted this fan is possibly quite hard to clean however this isn't really true as the assembly is very simple and the fan can be taken apart very easily, just need to remove it from the wall first! The if you lift the PCB you will see two screws, remove these whilst holding the fan on the otherside (so it doesn't fall) and the fan simply comes away allowing you to clean all areas where dust will no doubt accumulate in time. The reassembly can be a bit fiddly to get the holes realigned but only takes 2 or 3 attempts to get it. Overall a great value fan and hopefully it will stand the test of time!

Neat design brings installation problems
This is a neat design, smaller than the fan it was replacing. The working bits of electronics are fitted into the centre front of the fan. To connect the power cable it has first to be passed through a narrow tube. I achieved this by stripping the cable cover away for sufficient length, about 10cm. Then the three copper leads have to be secured in the connexion block. The block is very small, and the holes do not go right through. When the holes in a block go right through it is easy to see that you have inserted the wire sufficiently for the screw to get a firm grip. In this case the task is very fiddly, and for my ceiling fan has to be done with the unit hanging down. I managed it, but not without several attempts to get the screws to achieve a secure grip. When I tested it I was worried at first that it did not come on; I then found that the fan does not come on until after about five seconds from power on.

Great price, look, and super simple installation.
Really simple fan. 100mm spigot (outer diameter of nozzle that goes into the wall). Nice n flush. I put double sided foam round the spigot to save screwing the fan to tiling, gave a nice tight, flush fit. Timer model, so permanent live, neutral and a live from the light when light is on. Three wires. Simple. Turn 'timer left for minimum time after turning off light, turn it right for more and more fan on time after light switched off. Pure simplicity, but I am an engineer, bit would be surprised if anyone could possibly struggle, especially as likely being used as a replacement for a previously wired old fan. Turn off the mains power to the whole house, because the lights may not include the permanent live. Be careful, don't be regretfull! Not suited for spraying water at. As far as I'm aware, none are. That being said, there is an O ring seal on the electrics front cover plate AND screw head, which is a nice touch. Brilliant white finish, looks the business. Not noisey, but also not mega powerful. Just a normal bathroom fan! Great price!

Cheap and cheerful but going to be a pain to clean.
Pleasantly surprised at low cost and how quiet it was. A doddle to wire up and install as a replacement for a failed competitor unit. Instructions are a bit limited but just about sufficient. Overrun adjustment is straight forward from circa 2mins to 30mins although you do have to work this out by trial & error as the instructions are ambiguous and there is no indication on the circuit board which way to adjust it. Plastic is a bit cheap and flexible with a very waxy feel. There are rough edges on hidden surfaces but all that's on show is fine. There is however a hole cut-out on the edge of the grill (bottom centre - just left of the Expelair logo) to receive a surface mounted power cable. If like me you are wiring from behind, there is no need for this hole. Unfortunately no blanking plate/plug is supplied to face off this hole which is annoying as you will see it whether you are wall or ceiling mounting the unit. A bit of silicone will have to do. There are only two screw fixings (diagonally opposite corners) so extra care is need to drill the fixing holes in exactly the right location to ensure the unit sits flat to your wall / ceiling surface - any fractional misalignment and the plastic will distort and the unit will not sit flush to the wall/ceiling. The plastic blanking plugs over the 2 fixing screws and centre wiring cover plate are adequate but getting them out again without damage will be all but impossible - which leads to the next issue below..... I can see cleaning of the fan blades and anything behind the louvre grill is going to be extremely fiddly if not nigh impossible as the whole thing is one unit - no way to open it up. Removal of the whole unit from the wall / ceiling to give access from the back might offer some limited way in but I doubt it. Again I suppose at £12 one can afford to chuck it out rather than clean it in the three or so years time when it will really need it. Pity though. For me this is the only major disappointment. As for quality of the electronics, motor and bearings ....... time will tell but Expelair have been in this market for decades so one buts some faith in the brand name - that said, at £12 I am not expecting decades!

Decent 4" bathroom extract fan
Don't let the price put you off. Our 2 year old Manrose Quiet fan (with an enormous motor) was stopping and starting and constantly humming. The condensation in the bathroom was getting out of control. I didn't expect much for the price. It's a good fan. You need to strip quite a bit of outer sheathing off the cable to run it through the channel to the connector. Luckily the existing cable was long enough. I wrapped the 3 cores (permanent live, switched live & neutral) with a little masking tape and fed it through the channel. Don't be alarmed by the slight delay when you switch on the lights. In many ways it's good to prevent the in-rush current from spiking especially with lots of LED bulbs on the circuit as we do. It's quiet. Fairly well balanced, so no off-beat warbling like a Subaru flat 4.

Prodotto ottimo, soddisfatto dell'acquisto
