The Encyclopedia of Matchbox Toys: 1947-2001

Very good book comprehensive list lots of illustration's. Enjoyed it very much.

A gem of a book for all data, information, prices, conditions, just an endless mine of information. Well laid out and easy to follow. Top marks.

I collected matchbox cars as did my brothers and not all of them are included in this book. The description on the back of the book says nearly all are illustrated via 2447 photos and while it might be the most comprehensive available it is still not complete. It would also be helpful to have an index by year and by car name and by vehicle category. And a minimum of 2 or 3 photos of the same vehicle from different angles or in different colours would add greatly to this book. Notwithstanding these criticisms it remains the best ref guide available and am glad I bought it not cos I wanna sell my vehicles but cos I wanna know the vehicles I could never get as a kid with the pocket money I had and the range available in the local shops. It is a scandal that some great and unique British manufacturers were allowed and continue to be allowed to shut and that s thatcher s fault with her neoliberalist laissez faire economics. Matchbox was a national treasure. As were many car manufacturers like Austin wolseley etc. The french and germans would never have allowed this to happen to their industry and they up skilled and invested in people to survive changing times.

Arrived quickly, was just exactly what my husband wanted and he is very pleased with it.

Great reference for any Matchbox collector, it is a must have book.

Unfortunately, this book is incomplete. While searching for reasonably-priced Matchbox regular wheels (ones from the 50s and 60s) since buying this book, I have come across a raft of models that are not included in this book. For the models that are included in this book, they give me a good idea as to what to look for. However, this book is badly in need of an update to include pictures of the models the author has missed the first, second, third and fourth time around. This is quite a long way from being the definitive guide or 'encyclopedia' to Matchbox that us avid collectors need and crave.

Having been exposed to Matchbox models since 1971, I can say that a big part of my mental makeup towards the automobile was shaped by Matchbox models of their cay. Having been collecting these tiny gems since then, this book is a worthwhile compendium for me to see what I had , what I have, what I have missed and what I need to add!

Excelente livro para quem coleciona, guia bem completo. A única coisa que eu senti falta foi a classificação por ano. Recomendo.

j'ai bien aimé l'organisation de ce livre, ainsi qu toutes les explication données. je le recommande a tous les collectionneurs de matchbox en revanche une traduction Française serait un plus
