First Renewed Experience, First Samsung Device
This review is for the phone as well as the process of buying a Renewed item through Amazon. I purchased this phone because I could not find a phone that isn't massive but that still had the features and performance I require for daily use, so I decided to try this renewed Flip 4. The 90 day return policy and the great price convinced me to try it out. Not sure if I can name the seller in the review but I basically selected the phone in the best condition from the highest-rated seller fulfilled by Amazon. The phone arrived in blank packaging with a charging cable. It looks like there is a screen protector installed, plus there was a plastic film on top of the screen for packaging. It came half charged. The phone itself looks brand new. No detectable blemishes or signs of use. Hinge is nice and solid. Full charge was very fast (with fast charger). Setup fairly easy with Samsung transfer app but I am still missing a few passwords and accounts. I can manually add those later. There is a lot of bloatware from Samsung, plus carrier junk apps. (I think this is carrier unlocked- when I put my SIM it, it applied my carrier settings and apps.) Battery life (as expected-lots of info on this) is not great. I knew that going in. I am tracking battery usage throughout the day with different levels of use- screen open and closed, dormant or playing videos - and it seems as though this particular device doesn't deplete battery any more than would be typical for a phone this age. I suspect this particular phone was very gently used to begin with. Example: battery depleted about 10-15% overnight with no use, not plugged in. With heavier usage the battery use goes up to about 10% per hour. Not sure if there's anything I can adjust/disable to make this more efficient. My old phone would give me 1.5 to 2 days of a charge with regular use so this will be an adjustment. The screen is beautiful and easy to see. Samsung is an upgrade overall for me and I am pleased with how smooth it runs. Nice on-screen keyboard, etc. I am not tech savvy so there are probably too many customization options for me personally. I really just want a phone that works well for calls, that I can text on and use internet and maps periodically. This should do the job just fine. No SD storage and no headphone jack. I guess that's becoming customary. The device doesn't seem flimsy at all. That being said, I would get a case ASAP in the event of inadvertent drops - it happens. Signal and connection seem good, as does speaker quality. The fingerprint sensor is on the side near the volume buttons. Not sure I am crazy about this placement and it never registers the first time for me, but I think that's probably a user (me) problem. Overall I had a very good experience buying Renewed. Anyone who is interested in trying a flip smartphone, this is very economical option without a major commitment. I will update my review accordingly if, within 90 days, anything goes haywire on the device.

Buy the extra warranty fragile hinge phone
I purchased this phone about five months ago for my husband because he wanted something compact that could fit easily in the front pocket of his bib overalls. Before purchasing, I read reviews mentioning issues with the screen failing when the phone was unfolded. Most complaints were about the crease in the middle being noticeable. Since that didn't really bother my husband, we decided the pros outweighed the cons. Unfortunately, I didn't expect the phone to become unusable after only four months of use. Do not buy from Macalegin Electronics. FYI- don't believe the "5 stars" on the profile. I tried to do one by am not allow to review the seller. Amazon told me to contact the seller, and this was the seller's response: "Hi, sorry you are having this issue. The Flip and Fold models are very delicate and can develop issues like this. If the hinge does not close all the way, it is typically because of debris getting stuck inside the hinge." No. I purchased a protective case for the phone, and if you look at the first three photos, that is exactly how the phone looked when it arrived out of the box. At first, I didn't care because I had already purchased a nice case that covered the hinge area. What I didn't realize was that the seller had sold me a defective product. If you spend more than $250 on a phone, you should reasonably expect it to last at least six months, if not a year. Most product warranties are one year, not 90 days. The seller even suggested that I file an Amazon A-to-Z Guarantee claim. Amazon won't do anything because the guarantee only covers the first 90 days, which the seller likely knew when directing me to Amazon. I will never buy from this seller again. Buyer beware. If you can't stand behind your product beyond 90 days, there's something wrong with your business. The first three photos show the condition of the phone when it arrived. There were scratches around the hinge area, although I understood that I was purchasing a used phone. Even so, for the $250 I spent, I had hoped it would be in better condition. The phone arrived in a plain brown box with very little protective packaging. After five months of use, the screen began to separate along the fold area. Shortly afterward, the phone stopped working completely. The phone would close normally, but whenever it was opened, the screen remained black and we could not access any of its functions. My husband couldn't answer calls because the screen wouldn't activate when he opened the phone. When the phone was closed, it appeared normal and functioned as expected. When opened, however, the screen went dark. Although I could hear it rebooting, nothing appeared on the display. We were unable to reset it or retrieve any information from it. Since this was a renewed phone, I contacted the seller. The seller responded by explaining that Flip and Fold models are delicate devices and that debris can sometimes enter the hinge, causing issues with the flex cables that control the battery and screen. However, I had purchased a high-quality protective case specifically to help prevent damage, so I found that explanation difficult to accept. This is a Samsung phone, and I would expect it to last much longer than five months. A phone costing more than $250 should not become unusable so quickly under normal use. Just so other buyers are aware, Amazon only holds sellers responsible for defects for 90 days. After that period, buyers must file an Amazon A-to-Z Guarantee claim. In my opinion, 90 days is not enough coverage for a cell phone, especially one that costs more than $200. My claim was rejected by Amazon after several calls and even spoke with a supervisor. I would be cautious when purchasing a used Flip or Fold phone and expected it to last for more than the 90 days warranty from Amazon. If you do buy one, make sure you purchase an extended warranty, because if you're spending that much money, you don't want your phone breaking down in less than a year.

Purchase was great
I purchased this phone back in January, its been just about 4 months. To start i purchased it at a lower price due to selecting one with cosmetic damage, didn't bother me, I know to read descriptions when buying used. My issue was that the phone actually didn't stay powered on and would only work when plugged in. Im giving 5 stars because the customer service was great. I was originally offered a refund but I needed a phone so I asked about an exchange instead. I forgot who I spoke with but they delivered. I got a phone at the same price point which had 0 defects. I almost thought it was brand new. After 4 months just about the phone is still good. I have 0 issues with battery, both screen work, the folding still feels tight and good etc. Again my exchange was used also, I expected there to be some cosmetic damage or scratches on screen etc but it came 100 percent flawless. I will be ordering again since my wife now wants one.

Battery 🔋 dies quick
The phone is great. But the battery tends to die fast. You have to charge it a few times a day.

Black line of death the cause of reliability issues
Up to today, the phone has never been dropped (on hard surfaces), looks brand new as if it came out of the box besides a very small blemish to the right of the camera lens. The color is beautiful and matches what is shown online. The phone was very responsive and quick for multiple tasks, it even worked well on Genshin Impact (the game) besides getting a little on the warm side. I paid $299.99 (plus $18.00 tax totaling $317.99) June 22 2024. The phones screen started peeling and shortly after turning into a black line 8-9 months of ownership. As of today, ~16 months of ownership the black line grew to cover ~1 inch varying in size across the middle of the screen. (The progression of the peeling over ~7-8 months) The black line and above no longer responds to touch, only can see display above the black line. Under the black line works as it should. The touch screen not working on the top was discovered as of yesterday. I'm not sure of how many total reports there have been of this model of phone but with my experiences I would consider a different phone and perhaps avoid all of the Galaxy Z Flip or Fold phones. If you do consider to buy a Flip or Fold phone and expect it to last quite a bit longer than the warranty, while still being reliable, I highly advise to do your research. Sharing the steps I've taken so far... I've contacted Amazon. Seems they cant do much as its after a year of when I'm reporting this. I left a voicemail to Chubbiestech, the seller, to see what they can do. I will give Samsung a try as well as this problem is from a design flaw, not wear and tear. I also taken multiple pictures and a video of the phone and the phone case purchased for the phone to show the condition of the phone (phone looks brand new besides the screen where it is peeling and some finger prints on the sides) I would post the video however it is too big in size. The pictures shown are the phone along with the phone case. The case is scratched up a bit on the bottom left corner, however this only caused a cosmetic flaw to the case purchased separately for the phone. The case did its job protecting the phone for normal use excluding drops as the phone has never been dropped on hard surfaces. I'm sure its been lightly tossed on the bed, dropped into a pocket, and placed into a purse with other items that most likely caused the cosmetic flaw on the case. The phone has only been open while in use, so only fingers and weather touched the screen. A screen protector has never been applied to the phone. This is the first time I've ever had trouble with a product design itself sold on the Amazon platform out of 86 items.

DOESN'T HAVE THE GUARANTY it's a third party buy
The screen broke not so long ago. I was in the first year since i bought it, so with the guaranty of samsung, could have had my screen repaired for free. Because I bought it from that manufacture, which is a third party company, i am not eligible for the guaranty and have to pay 600$ to repair my screen. Go buy an open box instead, the guaranty works.
