Review: Fantastic music mixed properly for vinyl BUT... - I would like to first say that the mixing and mastering on these bong load records elliott smith releases are absolutely fantastic they did a stunning job and correctly mixed these for vinyl i would have liked to give this a five star review but the records I ordered did have some imperfections the first album in the two album pack which is XO did have some minor warping along with some surface noise I bought these new and their is some quite audible snaps and crackles it sounds to me like these were improperly handled at the pressing plant not necessarily bong load records fault and not a deal breaker I did a thorough cleaning and it for the most part did the trick but with that said I payed after tax 80 dollars for two albums if I'm paying a premium price for a record I expect to get a quality pressing that's what I'm paying the inflated prices for Again not a deal breaker but should be noted that you may or may not encounter the same problem as a vinyl format consumer we are all at the mercy of pressing plants So I would say the music, mixing and mastering deserve 5 stars But the pressing gets 4 due to poor quality control and I'm being generous Review: This record is beautiful looking and for 16 song on a single LP ... - Bong load is accurate seeing as you have to be high as a kite to charge this much for a single LP. And yet here I am. I heard many horror stories about the pressing quality of the other reissue, so it was this or mediocrity. I think I made the right choice, albeit an expensive one. This record is beautiful looking and for 16 song on a single LP it sounds amazing. Aside from some minor surface noise from the swirl vinyl, it's a great sounding release, even for a single vinyl edition. It sounds much better than the 2012 plain records edition which is very mid rangey and distorted in spots. I thought I was getting a double LP and was initially disappointed but after multiple listens doing an A-B with the other pressing, I prefer this one by far. The drums are more clear and out front and the mid range is dialed back significantly.
