Canapés: Over 200 recipes and step-by-step guides

This book was given to me a present several years ago and it is now dogged-eared and covered in baking remnants! I have made most of the canapes in the book and it has served as a great starting point for creating my own! The recipes are simple and easy to follow, with very small amounts of ingredients - great for keeping the shopping bill down when catering for large numbers. Canapes look great when set out on a large table or set around the party room. Guests will be awe struck by your talents and be delighted at the vast array of little treats! Many of the 'bases' can be made in advance and frozen or refrigerated until the day of the party, so that you can effortlessly dress and decorate your bases, and still have enough time to shower and change before the greeting your guests with a glass of red in hand! Canape parties have been a huge success for me and I know they will be for you if you have this book! The bang bang chicken always makes a regular appearance! Homemade canapes are also so much nicer than the frozen varieties from supermarkets. Enjoy!

I bought this book hoping it would inspire me when we have friends over. It definitely does that. Lots of ideas and techniques and just different things. The book was sold as very good and it actually looks new! I only paid 70p for the book plus postage but well worth buying. My mind always goes blank when we have friends coming over so, no excuses now!

The book (an ex library book, which I didn't realise it would be) is good, exactly what I need. Only four stars though, as the packaging was not that secure or padded at all. The parcel was completely open at one end. Just a plastic envelope, no protection for the books. Consequently, one of the books was quite damaged along the top.

I love cooking and entertaining without food never seems to be an option for me. Luckily this little gem of a book helps in a major way. Canapes are not just those cheese and onion cocktail sticks or sandwiches cut small-canapes are bitesize morsels that you'll want to eat again and again. With so many recipes and presentation ideas you'll find recipe and menu ideas for any occasion. I'm currently working on a menu for a small business gathering and I know all my cooking will be done in an afternoon leaving me stress free to get on with other areas. Perfect book for those who get to called on to to cater for little gatherings. Maybe I shouldn't say this but I would also recommend this book to caterers-you may even learn something from this book (and lets face it catering is a competative business). Not recommended for anyone looking for little bitesize treats for children as I don't think children's palettes can handle 'posh' food compared to the stuff they get given that is sugar/salt loaded. Saying that though, if you're a parent wishing to do something different for your childrens birthday maybe this is the book for you. Thumbs up-excellently layed out, no room for mistakes and beautiful photographs to boot.

I read the reviews and was seduced by the reports of new recipes and ignored the ones about reduced illustrations. I loved the original and have bought several as gifts and used it many times myself (with great success). However I was really disappointed with the layout and lack of illustrations. The previous book was inspirational - this is rather dull. I have given 3 stars as I know it contains some brilliant recipes but it's no fun

This book is incredible. I have made so many canapés recipes already, and plan more. I was inspired by this book to also take a short evening course on canapés and cocktail making. This is how I shall be entertaining my friends and family when I move into my new home and kitchen later this year.

Whatever the level of your kitchen skills you will get much from this book. You don't need to make all the recipes from scratch if good shortcuts are available (I won't make my own blinis, for example) but the range of options is creative and inspiring. Making decisions what to take on or not will be your biggest challenge. NB being an older book if does not specifically cover vegan or other dietary concerns but I did not find this a problem. You'll just need to expand your invention from other sources or just use some imagination.

This is the definitive book for anyone who enjoys making interesting, creative, and tasty appetizers. The chef is utterly amazing and I highly recommend. Please note that there appears to be two editions. One is UK and the other is USA. The books are exactly the same. I wish he would put out another book like this as there are none others that come even close! I have given this for gifts and even took a workshop with the French chef. I cannot recommend this book enough!
