The book is beautifully illustrated and the few, but very poignant words are meaningful and thought provoking. The children seem to be able to empathise with the character Beegu, and understand the emotions Beegu may be feeling and consequently can then relate this to their feelings. This is the second book I own by Alexis Deacon, I also use 'Lost and Found' with the children, and again the children can really empathise with the Penguin and relate this to their experiences. It tells the story of a little alien crash landing on Earth, wondering why she can't speak to anyone. The tale unfolds, with lovely illustrations how she manages to find her way home. We used it as our class book for our Y2 English lessons (using a free 'power of reading' scheme) and the writing it encouraged our class to make was wonderful! Quite a few our the class asked their parents to buy it for them, so it definitely made a good impression.
