Amazing read - definitely recommend!
Our darling heroes return! Percy is back for a second time around, breaking the rules, being hilarious, and generally running a muck around the US of A to save the day. I don't know why, but it works. Like the first book, the only downfall I see with this book is the fact this is a bunch of kids running around doing things that even some adults struggle to comprehend - but I have finally got over that fact and really enjoyed reading this! Percy definitely has the potential to be very annoying but there is enough humour and humanity in him to keep him bearable, even likeable. Annabeth was verging on bratty at parts, but she is a 13 year old so that can be totally forgiven. My favourite character was, by far, Tyson. What a truly adorable cyclops! The way he was wrote was endearing and at times I couldn't help but want my own Tyson! He was innocent, and quite frankly very slow, but he had a brilliant personality and that came through. Plotwise, brilliant, as I have come to expect from this series in such a short period of time. It had enough twists to keep it interesting and definitely left me wanting to read on and on. I especially enjoyed the whole sheep thing, but that may be from the time I spent in Wales... One thing that annoyed me, looking back at the plot, was Riordans excuse as to why Annabeth didn't like Tyson. It was so stupid and unbelievable, and that comes from someone who just read a book about a bunch of demi-gods. Writing wise, some really, really funny moments where I couldn't help but burst out laughing, but also some serious moments that made me a bit weepy. My opinions of the Gods from the first book stay the same. I have no love for any of then, no matter how many times we get someone to explain their reasoning. I feel like they could turn into golden parents and I still wouldn't be able to like them, not after everything they have done. Definitely a YA book that I would recommend to anyone. An enjoyable, smart read that promises so much more to come!

Superb retelling of ancient stories in a modern way
I have just finished reading this second book in the Percy Jackson series to my children. They love these books. They seriously pester me every night to read to them, which given the number of other distractions and delights available to them in the form of electronic gizmos, is high praise indeed. They are never content with just one chapter either, they always clamour for more. Luckily, reading to them is no hardship with books as well put together as this. I have enjoyed reading it to them as much as they have enjoyed being read to. In this book, Percy is reunited with Annabeth, daughter of Athena, and a new friend, Tyson, and sent off on a new quest which sees him reunited with friends and enemies alike, as he races to save Camp Half Blood from imminent destruction. I don't want to give too much of the book away if you are about to embark upon it, because there are lots of unexpected twists and turns to the plot which make it exciting to read. As an adult who read a lot of mythological stories, and who later studied Greek and Roman civilisation at university, I love how Riordan effortlessly threads the ancient stories into new and exciting shapes for modern readers. My children aren't really aware of the background of the original stories, and I am also looking forward to them discovering them as they grow older. We already have the third book lined up.

Nearly As Good As Book One
I want to say right out of the gates that I cannot claim this book was as good as the original Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, but it is nearly as good. My husband and I read this book to our daughter as a family—my husband reads the narration and the male parts, while I read the female parts (we also read the Harry Potter series this way, though I read the narration for that one). In my Lightning Thief review, I mentioned that I wish I had been a Percy Jackson kid rather than a Harry Potter one, and that sentiment still stands. I have always been interested in Greek mythology, and my husband studied Classical Civilisation, so we already have a solid understanding of the original stories that inspire Rick Riordan’s writing. This definitely makes it easier to love this clever series of books. The writing is consistently well done and perfectly aimed at the target age group (my daughter, who is nine, is loving this series), and the characters are slowly becoming more well-rounded as we learn more about them with each chapter. I really enjoyed the cliffhanger ending, and we’ve already bought the next book in the series, Percy Jackson and the Titan’s Curse, and started reading it.

Great book
After watching the Percy series on Disney plus I decided to start reading the books, the first book is very close to the tv show so the sea of monsters was my proper chance to see what happens without spoilers. I really enjoyed the book and just love Grover in this one, I know they are aimed at teen readers but as a 29 year old I am throughly enjoying the Percy series and have almost finished book 5 now! Deffo recommend even for adults

Amazing Must Read
I was very excited to get to rereading this book. I was excited to see how the characters had developed even more throughout this book. With the plot and storyline of this book was very interesting, especially with how it was written. It kept me wanting to find out more, and to what happened next. The way that the mythology was written within the story made it very interesting and making me want to know more. With how the book ended meant something as it may seem to cause problems moving forwards. What could this mean moving forward?

Exceptionally good book. Definitely recommend this.
This is the second book in the series, which I recently bought for my son, and I didn't expect him to get so hooked into the book. My son always despised reading, but he tried the Percy Jackson series as a recommendation from his cousin. It has a good set of vocabulary, and describes characters great. It is loaded with mythical creatures, legendary heroes and more. The book consists of breath- stealing and gut wrenching types of moments. This book does not disappoint, after the original lore of building the first book, this one seriously just throws you in right away. It is a fantasy adventure book about a half-blood, half-human, half-Greek God named Perseus Jackson who goes on a quest to save his friends and Camp Half-Blood. At Percy's school, he was playing dodgeball with his classmates when they are attacked by cannibal giants. Percy and his friends have to fight their way through the monsters while not getting killed. I recommend this book because it is a great follow-on from the first book. (The Lightning Thief)

A Sensational Mix of Greek Mythology and Modern Day
This book has an excellent storyline and plausible plot. The story is based on Percy Jacksons adventure to find the Golden Fleece and use it to heal the Thalia the daughter of Zeus who turned into a tree. Percy Jackson sets on a quest to find the fleece but encounters the horrible Cyclops Polyphemus and other monsters on the journey to the finding of the fleece. During this time Percy has to grasp the fact that his brother is a cyclops as well and is called Tyson, Tyson has a huge impact on throughout the story and protects Percy. Setting off with Annebeth he encounters the witch Circe who turns into a guinea pig. Luckily if his friend had not come to rescue him he would have been stuck in that state for eternity. Excellent book I would definitely recommend this book for all readers it is a brilliant book and I think Riordan is a genius when it comes to writing in Greek mythology.

Perfect continuation from the first instalment
The Sea of Monsters is the second instalment of Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson and the Olympian’s series. It follows Percy Jackson who sets off on a quest with his new friend, Tyson, and old friend, Annabeth, to find his best friend, Grover. They come into contact with Tantalus, Hermes, Scylla and Charybdis, Circe, and Polyphemus, and come across the Golden Fleece. My favourite character is Percy and my least favourite character is Luke. I recommend this book because it’s the perfect continuation from the first instalment, with great character growth. I love the incorporation of Greek mythology into this series. ‘I just propped up Annabeth so she wouldn’t fall off, covered her in the Golden Fleece that we’d been through so much to get, and said a silent prayer of thanks. Which reminded me … I still owed the gods a debt. ‘You’re a genius,’ I told Annabeth quietly. Then I put my head against the Fleece, and before I knew it I was asleep, too.’
