Works in a desktop PC, LibreDrive friendly, maybe the last of them
Using a "slimline SATA to normal SATA adapter" (B0C9T78N3V) I was able to connect this "laptop" drive to my desktop PC SATA. It works perfectly. My drive came with firmware 1.05. I was able to backup my 3D Blu Rays using MAKEMKV without updating the firmware. The drive is LibreDrive capable and I've done this. These laptop drives are pretty feeble when it comes to ejecting the disk, compared to a "proper" 5.25" drive. You press "eject" and it pops out an inch or two, not the nice "all the way out, all the way in" mechanics of a desktop drive. However, desktop (5.25") optical drives are extremely rare now that production of them is winding down (or ceased). Grab this slim BU40N while you can. It's totally MAKEMKV and SDF Flasher compatible. It can read DVD/Blu Ray (including 3D) and UHD (once the firmware is correct). I have quite a few 3D Blu Ray disks (about £400 worth). I have a Panasonic "home theatre" 3D Blu Ray player (about £600). I had a 3D OLED TV which died (£2000). They don't make 3D TVs anymore. So I'm left with £1000 of "waste". To watch my legit 3D movies I've had to: 1. Buy a Blu Ray reader for my PC (I don't burn copies - my intentions are honest) 2. Use MAKEMKV to create a file on my PC 3. Buy the Sony PSVR2 headset (I have a PS5 anyway) + PC adapter 4. Install Steam + SteamVR + Sony PSVR2 App 5. Install PotPlayer (this is excellent) 6. Install Steam "BigScreen BETA" 7. Run PotPlayer to play my 3D mkv file in full screen SBS mode 8. Run BigScreen and tell it to "SBS" (side by side) into my PSVR2 headset 9. Swear a lot trying to get all of the above working "seamlessly" It works. It's not ideal. Without this BU40N it would be impossible and that £1000 would become "consumer waste". I worked dang hard for that money. It's not going without a fight!

Great product
Excellent product, thin, light, fast, reads/write everything. Probably a bit noisy but considering dimensions it's expected. I use this to write new disks but also to validate used 4K UHD blu rays without the need to watch them on TV (I use ImgBurn to validate). It's quicker in case you buy many used movies and can't watch all of them in a short amount of time :)

Great UHD Blu-ray slimline device
Brilliant device capable or reading UHD Blu-ray. Dropped a star as the cover is narrower than normal slimline dvds and can get jammed in my external enclosure. Seems compatible with a large range of films both on dvd, Blu-ray and uhd Blu-ray

Works well..well worth the cost read all review please
The dvd writer in my Dell laptop has been a bit unreliable since I bought it but as it was in constant use I couldn't send it back. I did also need a Blu Ray burner anyway. It is easy to install. Just one screw on the Dell to take out. The bezel from the old drive fits perfectly and it slotted in perfectly. In use as noted by other it can be little noisy when in play mode. However so far I have had no burn failures for CD DVD or Blu Ray disks unlike the other drive when I lost 1-4 disks in each weekly production run of about 10 disks. So far have been using 25gb 4x for BD. Write speeds are never up to max. Usually only half or less of stated disk. But that could be down to the Roxio software being cautious. I usually have found that Hitachi-LG optical drives to be reliable. So hopefully this will give good reliable service for a long as I need it UPDATE Yesterday was backing up data and began getting one disk failure after another. Also writing was only 2x max for 4x rated disk. Nor only that it about 2/3 through it dropped to 0.02x at times and took 2-3 hours per disk - if it finished them. It turned out to be the burning software (Roxio) was the culprit. When I used Nero the difference on the same disks was incredible. 4x consistent write, data checked and so far all 3 disks OK. It might be some settings in Roxio needed to be tweaked not sure. SO conclusion is that if you are having problems with disk write failures check first for fingerprints on disk (might have been problem) or try seeing if tweaks in burn software will help or try using different software or upgrade software. Apart from that one glitch the drive has been working perfectly since.

Does what it says
Drive wasn't detected using a slimline sata to usb cable but that was down to a cheap cable that couldn't deal with drive commands. Slimline sata to full sata, then that to usb works fine. Drive working according to spec so happy. Let's see how long it lasts.

Works fine, but not if you need to digitise your UHD library
Works fine as far as I can tell, but I got it to digitise our 4K library which this drive can't do. Returned it and instead picked up a Verbatim 43888 which does work with makemkv.

Sehr schnelle Lieferung. Das Laufwerk funktioniert einwandfrei. Nach dem flashen auf 1.03_MK auch bestens für UHDs geeignet ;-)

No problems encountered so far. The drive is shipped with version 1.5 firmware, so if you want to use makemkv, you'll need to downgrade to version 1.3 .

works fine with makemkv after flashing the firmware.
