Yes, it's just a main extension. But it's so much better quality than any of the standard cheapo jobs I've bought before. The socket spacing is just right - the fattest plugs and the odd brick adaptor will all fit comfortably alongside each other, but the overall length of the unit is still reasonable. The cable can be clipped into guides underneath so that it exits either end as you prefer. Useful, as I could turn it round so that all the plugs were pointing the way I wanted, plus the green on/off switch is now at the far end, not the cabled end as shown in the product photos. This makes it much more accessible for me. Plus you can also loop around the cable on its underside to make the cable shorter, as I have. There's an orange neon inside the green button that lights up a standard power symbol. It's bright enough to be visible but at a sensible low brightness level, not silly bright as many LED indicators are these days - we have other products that can light a room. All the plugs pop in with a smooth, almost springy clunk. I wouldn't expect to be pleased with or even notice the tactile quality of a mere mains extension, but this is noticeably better quality than most sockets. It's reasonably lightweight, but still very solidly made. The loop sticking out of the end in the photos had snapped off on arrival, but I don't think this is intended to be part of the product - it looks like it's just for hanging in a shop while on display. If you want to mount it on anything then there are two keyhole screw holes on the underside - just screw in two screws of the right diameter at the required spacing then slot it on, to give concealed fixings.

Not much to say about it really, it does what it says on the tin! It's a good size, feels very strong and reliable, doesn't feel cheap at all, has the ability to turn on/off half the sockets at a time (each row of 5 can be turned on/off), lots of sockets, surge protection, and good length cable al as stated in the product description! Will likely be buying more in the future!

Really good extension lead with enough wire to get to the socket. Best bit is the clips at the back so the cable can go in any direction.

The black 2metre Brennenstuhl Primera eight gang extension lead with surge-protection is well made and has good contacts, perfect for UK homes and businesses. The Az-blurb is accurate. It expects to be plugged into a normal well maintained 13A socket with a good earth, and not an extension lead. The one in my picture replaces the six port version, and is plugged into a UPS to maintain home essentials and the new digital phone. It is a welcome improvement over some generic anonymous on-line offerings I’ve tried recently and immediately binned because they were potentially lethal. I took a look inside. It has a decent thickness of buss conductors with contacts that grip plug-pins properly and will last. The surge protection is in a neat little circuit board located near the input lead and mains switch. The mains switch isolates the whole of the strip including the surge protection board from the incoming live line. The neutral is always connected, as is the earth. The cover is secured by tamper-resistant screws; however, with the correct tools access is possible to enable a safety check. The 13A plug is moulded in the correct shape with safe pins and contained the correct fuse.

Just installed cabinets for a media centre. Counted up needed 12 sockets, tv, soundbar,blu-ray, cable box etc. None of the above draw a large current and probably no more than 2 or 3 at once so quite safe to use. Only 1 plug was shaped and wouldn't fit so we had to find another location for that one. Straight line opposite sockets work well giving it a small footprint. Excess cable folds neatly underneath. Would have liked some usb sockets but not a deal breaker.
