The Very Best Of Paul Anka

The bio included with the CD was fascinating! I knew Mr. Anka was a talented songwriter, but am floored at how prolific he's been. Surprised as well, to discover he was behind so many songs made famous by other singers...I doubt it would be possible for a single artist to record 900 songs in one lifetime!! Anyone interested in musical history should purchase this CD; the insert alone is worth the asking price. That the music is wonderful goes without saying. Mr. Anka is impressively awe-inspiring; he's created an incredible musical legacy spanning 5 generations. This recording features his earliest hits.

Paul Anka has made some good recordings. He's written many wonderful songs recorded by many artisits. This CD has many of my favorites by him. It's easy to listen to; so, if you like oldies and you like Paul Anka buy it for yourself. You can listen to samples at AMAZON.COM.

Love his old classic songs.

I'm not as happy with this collection, since most or all of the songs are re-recordings. Not that he doesn't still sing well--he does--but when I'm buying collections of old hits like this, I prefer the original versions. I do understand that sometimes there are legal problems such as ownership of the original masters, which cause this. Re-recording can give the artist a better cut of the pie. The music is still good, and he wrote many of his own hits.

There appears to be some complaints about this CD and it being a re-recording, well it is but the reasons are simple, Anka changed record companies and re-recorded all his earlier hits, they were done in the early 60's and are in superb stereo, unlike the muddy mono of the originals. His voice is on top form, but die hard enthusiasts will insist on having the original versions, so see ASIN: B00000334E HIS 30th anniversary edition, WARNING V V EXPENSIVE, so try buying in used condition. (see my review) I own both and highly recommend both. PS, there are other issues from strange companies, but I would not trust the quality, you pays your money and take the chance.
