Yarn Swift, Stable Umbrella Holder for Skeins, Flexible Lightweight Design

Genuinely impressed with this yarn swift, for the current price of £21.99. A reasonable price to pay in order to save a lot of bother. I always found winding skeins/hanks of yarn into balls, with no assistance (mechanical or human) to be a nuisance of tangles and frustration, gritted teeth and much swearing. But have now winded skeins/hanks of yarn into neat balls using this new yarn swift I've bought. It's easy and lovely to use and saves such a lot of time and frustration. Makes it a relaxing, pleasing experience. It's easy and intuitive to set up and use. May be of practical use to readers: the product description says: "The table clamp or clip is 1.75" (use it on a table thinner than 1.75"/4.5cm)" - but by being careful with the screw/clamp bit, it does sit firmly on my table that is full 5cm thickness. It folds up neatly again - it works just like an umbrella - and I had no trouble fitting it back into its compact storage box. Glad I bought it.

Little fiddly at the bottom when setting up but works well with no snagging of yarn. And the case it lives in is great.

I don't know why my absolute top favourite yarns always come in skeins, and it has been the bane of my life getting them into a ball. I've given up on twisting the yarn around a thick crochet hook or knitting needle because that just makes the yarn windier. I have spent days and days trying to unravel the huge birds nests that they make. I decided to wind onto flat cardboard rather, and reduce the windiness. I read the reviews on this winder and they were all pretty good. I struggled to get it fixed to my table but eventually managed. I put the yarn on wrong at first but it was still working, but I thought, this can't be right that I have to sit with my arms up, so I watched a few videos and found that you have to put the yarn around the sides. The instructions do NOT show it well - they are drawings that are very unclear. Anyway now I have it right and it's spinning away amazingly well. No more using my knees or an upended stool! Very happy.

I already had a yarn winder but my husband had been complaining about acting as a yarn swift. I spent about 6 months looking on amazon and other sites but couldn't find a swift that had reviews without a fair amount of negative ones, until now. I used this swift on a hank yesterday, as the other reviews said instructions were confusing I didn't bother with them. I had to loosen the clamp screw before I could put up the swift but everything else was really straightforward - the swift arms expand like an umbrella and you can change the size to fit your yarn, the clamp easily screwed securely to the side table I was using, no wobbling, and it rotated really smoothly in both directions - faster than i could wind it. I had pre-tangled the hank a bit by accident, so when I first started, I rang across a lot more snags. I stopped and unwound then used the other end of the yarn and it went much more smoothly - I did have to stop occasionally but I found it easy to free the tangles by loosely spinning it both ways. I don't know if skeins have a direction but if you are struggling I suggest trying winding from the other end. Arrived in a hard plastic box so protected from bending/plastic parts breaking which was great. It was a tight fit so I have decided not to bother putting back in the box in case I snapped some of the plastic bits, you will probably need a bit of patience if you want to store it like that. Amazing item, wish i'd found it sooner

Love this, I had a wooden one but trying to get the yarn skein organised to stay put whilst opening it was so difficult but this with its umbrella action is so easy! It was very reasonably priced and works so well, it turns smoothly whilst winding yarn and even has its own case which is good as it keeps it dust free and safe from breakage! Highly recommend this both for price and smooth action! Glad I changed, expensive is not always the way forward as this was incredibly low priced for such efficiency!

Great value for this price. Unfortunately the metal loops don't hold the rings well in place. So after each time it is folded out again the rings need to be put in place. The blue plastic tubes aren't sturdy so it doesn't cut into the yarns, but also doesn't keep the tension while winding. The skein will go down the umbrella, but doesn't fall off. While winding the umbrella gives some resistence, so it pulls on the yarn which makes the final cake tighter. Which is great, but with very fragile yarns need to be paid attention to. But all in all this is a great item and I'm very glad of owning it. Large skeins (Atelier Zitron Yak) fits on this. The clamp is great for a variability of table sizes and really sturdy. Even though the metal loops might catch the wool, they don't break them. Makes great tight cakes. Has a fabulous plastic cover to store the umbrella yarn holder and keep it dust free. Doesn't take much space which is great. And the umbrella is easily adjusted in height/width.

I’d been putting off getting a yarn swift due to the cost of the wooden ones. I was wary of buying something cheaper but this is absolutely fantastic! I haven’t had it long so can’t judge how long it’ll last but it feels very sturdy and makes a perfect cake of sock yarn!

Am Anfang war ich etwas skeptisch. Hatte noch nie eine Spindel. Bin begeistert. Musste am Anfang ein bisschen üben um die Spannung für den Wollstrang einzustellen, geht aber jetzt ganz fix. Bei der Qualität gibt es nur 4 Sterne, weil sich der Wollstrang beim bespannen schon mal in den Metallringen verfängt. Aber für den Preis super
