The diffuser is optional, you do not have to fit it. **Q: Does it fit into a standard ceiling robe fitting** A: Yes they do. There are three shades of varying size which I have put in the hallway and up the stairs starting with the smallest at the bottom of the stairs, middle size on the landing and large size at the top of the stairs.
