hi there!! no this cd/cassette player does not have a digital radio.

I purchased this product for my daughter 18th and how disappointed is she is does not work using the power cable.

either you have not got it plugged in correctly or the power point is not working. It takes a standard figure of eight 2 pin lead and the likelihood is that you have another somewhere in your home. Try another one in a known to be working power point. The fuse may be missing or faulty in the plug top. If of this fails you have a faulty unit which will need to be fixed. I find it to be a very good and reliable unit.

does this have a headphone socket?

product manual states ''audio-in socket is not for headphones'' so answer is no.
