Use Red E-L only on aluminum, magnesium, titanium and tantalum. Red E-L is usually used on aluminum. It is not intended for use on any other metals or materials. Red E-L can change its shade of red depending on how long it is in the dye bath. It can be a grayish red if you do a shorter anodizing cycle. For a longer duration in the anodizing bath and in the dye bath, Red E-L will look like fiery red hot coals. The anodizing process parameters have a significant impact on the properties of the oxide formed. This means that the color is dependent on the anodizing process. Red E-L is RoHS compliant. Anodizing is an electrochemical conversion process. Anodizing changes the outer surface of the aluminum. Anodized aluminum has different characteristics than raw aluminum. Some of the characteristics of anodized aluminum include durability and weight. (It is lighter weight than stainless steel.) The process of “anodization” creates a thick oxide layer. This thick oxide layer makes it very hard, quite scratch resistant and improves its corrosion resistance. Also, the thick oxide layer makes it easier to clean than raw aluminum. Me being a rookie anodizer, I didn't realize black takes more dye than the other colors so it's normal for the red and blue bottles to only have a teaspoon or so in them. I called Interactivia's customer service number that's listed in their profile and talked to a VERY helpful guy. He's done anodizing himself and not only answered my question on why the red and blue bottles were only partially filled, he gave me some awesome advice on the anodizing process.
