Simple, cost-effective solution
. . . needed and quick, cheap solution for capturing a few VHS tapes. Arrived quickly. Worked without special drivers on my Linux box and worked with the suggested, free open source software. Configuring the software was a little tricky and took a few minutes of trial and error.

It just works...though I can't speak to longevity
I bought this to use for work. I service DVR systems on School buses, and the only way to view the DVR live is by connecting A/V cables (Yellow and Red). The solution we have used for years was using a portable DVD player with A/V input. This was a fine solution with one of my oldest, Sony DVD players, which has excellent battery life and good (for A/V) image quality. It has been terrible with some of our "newer" DVD players, as the input jack was of very low quality and the battery life was awful. Since we generally have to carry a laptop to the buses for servicing as well, I thought I'd try this capture card. To my delight, it works great so far. I did install OBS and recorded through that software for my initial test. It did work, but I will have to train other technicians how to use it, and feel it may be above their heads for what we need. I also used the capture card through the built-in Windows Camera app. While it did take a few extra steps to bypass the Windows firewall, once it began working, it has worked flawlessly every time. I tested by closing the software, disconnecting the USB cable, and reinserting it. Unplugging the USB while the camera app was running, plugging it back in, and the image came back every time. Again, I can't speak to the longevity, since I just got the capture card, but so far I am pleased. If I notice any other major changes or problems, I will update this review.

Surprisingly effective compared to prior years of incompatibility
I bought this figuring it's worth the risk at such a low price. In years past, it was a nightmare trying to get this simple type of analog composite video input (and corresponding stereo audio input) to function with any up-to-date Windows computer, because of drivers and other random problems. Thankfully, the situation has fully matured and there are simply no more problems. I would normally be very picky about image quality, but the implicit reality of digitizing/converting low-quality video is that it actually doesn't matter much! This product (and its hundreds of equivalents) faithfully captures the low quality of, e.g., a VHS composite video output at a mere 640 x 480p SD resolution. And indeed, as many note -- and even DIGITNOW's documentation suggests -- the option to simply use the open-source, free program OBS is your best-case scenario. This product works flawlessly and instantly with OBS. Overall, a pleasant surprise. Be aware, however, that the separate left and right audio inputs imply stereo sound delivery. This is actually a fraudulent move by the manufacturer: they had a responsibility to warn that their product is actually incapable of reproducing discrete stereo sound, and instead, sums up the left and right channels into a mono signal. This product will destroy your original stereo source by reducing it down to monaural sound. Wasn't a problem for me, but could be for you.

Really great for the price
We tested multiple brands of USB and PCIE capture cards to compare quality. While this one was the cheapest priced, its video quality was on par or better than cards 5-6x the price. We mainly checked for artifacting and color fringing on the video output. We did not test sound. The USB extension was a nice inclusion to prevent the adapter from breaking off if bumped while plugged into your machine. Lastly, this was only 1 of 2 adapters we tested that showed up as a webcam imaging device in windows automatically and did not require any driver installation.

Wow, this little device is a GAME CHANGER
I am absolutely thrilled with this fantastic little device! I'm in the process of creating a memorial video for my dear friend, and I needed to digitize a 30-year-old VHS tape. My existing VCR/DVD combo unit involved a cumbersome process of burning DVDs and then transferring them to my MacBook Pro (2022). This device has completely streamlined that workflow! Just a quick note for other users: out of the box, the included cables didn't directly connect to my VCR. I needed to acquire a set of male RCA cables (yellow, white, red) to bridge the connection between my VCR and this device. Despite my limited technical expertise, I was able to set it up easily. I am so relieved and happy that this worked! I now have my precious footage digitized and the audio sounds great too! I had previously started converting old VHS tapes but disliked the intermediate DVD burning step. This device is a game-changer, allowing for direct digitization to my laptop. Highly recommend!

Barely works....
1) Doesn't come with any software, just instructs you to either download OBS or Potplayer. OBS is already free... even if you go to their website, they just have a link for OBS. 2) Doesn't work with Windows 11. Device manager sees it, and says that it's working, but I never did get video to work. Their website does NOT have any driver downloads available. 3) Captures 720x480 at 25 FPS... which is OK I guess for VHS... but.... 4) Video image seems to shift in/out of phase, making colors jump or wash out. 5) Did get it working with my mac, but it captures, but you can't listen to the sound while it captures. I mean, I should have know that at $12 it was too good to be true (Oh, $10 if you buy it directly from their webpage)... Overall, I cannot recommend this. I mean, I'm an IT Systems Administrator, and *I* couldn't get it to work on my Windows 11 box (and yes, it's newer, and plenty powerful... just wouldn't work.) Even the windows camera app refused to initialize it. The Mac is the only thing that it halfway worked on, and then poorly.

Hardware works. Hostech software does not.
It's hard to rate this. The Grabber hardware works perfectly. Honestech software does not recognise the hardware it comes with. Software says the Camera device cannot be used. It is a great value for the hardware but zero value for the software. VHS to DVD Transfer with GRABBER and ZOOM Around 2010 I transferred a large number of VHS home videos and commercial movies to DVD using a specialized hardware device and accompanying software. Go forward to 2021. While cleaning out all the old VHS tapes I ran across several movies I had not transferred. I can not find the original device kit I used 10 year ago. I bought the DIGITNOW transfer kit from Amazon for $10. Hardware is USB 2.0 Grabber dongle. Software.is Honestech. I was sorely disappointed with the result. The Grabber shows up in WIndows 10 as a Camera device, AV TO USB 2.0 and an audio device, USB 2.0 MIC. Attempting to record the VHS output the Honestech software says the “camera device can not be used”. I recalled that ZOOM records camera videos. I was able to configure the ZOOM client to use the GRABBER devices. The audio had to be configured for Original Sound. For this to work the Grabber Honestech software has to be installed to provide working drivers for the camera and audio. Burning a usable DVD from the captured .mp4 file is another matter. The Honestech burning software does not recognise any of the common video formats. It must be using a proprietary file marker from the transfer. There is no freely available software to render and burn such video files to a DVD. The best solution is available from the Microsoft Store on Windows 10. Install Movie Maker Video Editor and then upgrade to Movie Maker Pro for $14.99 that comes with DVD Creator. It all just works. The only issue so far is the DVDs will not play on the 1988 SONY DVD player attached to the VHS player I use. The DVDs play just fine on my 2009 SONY Bluray player and on PC DVD devices. Go figure. I can transfer my VHS to DVD at a total cost of about $25.
