Michael Kitchen is Detective Chief Superintendent Foyle, a hardworking, policeman in Hastings during the Second World War. Great set. Bought these to replace a cheaper set from eBay that wouldn’t load properly. No problems with these and they arrived promptly in perfect condition. Recommend !

A Gripping Time Capsule
The mysteries are excellent. The acting is wonderful. Character development is flawlessly executed. If this were not enough, the 1940s settings and atmosphere takes me back into the lives of people who lived through the war. The historical background is also extremely well integrated with the stories. Being immersed in these films takes me into a world I did not experience, but was very much the crucible of my parents’ lives. And there is something else here too. The 1940s can often be romanticised - “our finest hour”. That it may have been, but the flaws of humanity are not swept away in the telling of the stories. We are presented, for example, with the self-serving baseness of looters, people trapped into acting against their will, officers who misuse their position of power, and the ethical conflicts created by the inability to convict profoundly corrupt men who are essential to the war effort. Foyle navigates the moral landscape with an admirable sense of decency, ably assisted by his two assistants, who are equally complex characters in their own right. We feel for them. And we are reminded that mankind does not change in essence, in different time periods. The world is portrayed in all its moral shades of grey, in wonderful settings and backdrops, and compelling plots. This is a box set I will return to frequently. There is something new to see in every viewing.

Une série anglaise sur la période de la seconde guerre mondiale et sur le début de la période de la guerre froide. Les acteurs sont excellents, les épisodes bien construits, les intrigues bien faites et une touche d'humour en prime. A déguster sans modération!

One of the best English detective series. Great intertwining of detective stories and the war and post war theme. Beautiful cinematography and great acting.

Spannend und auch zeitgeschichtlich interessant
Ich gebe meine Einschätzung, nachdem ich 5 Episoden sah. Ich pflege meine Rezeption mit anderen Serien abzuwechseln, z.Zt. mit der Inspector Banks Serie. Daher die Vorläufigkeit meiner Einschätzing. Mir gefallen die Handlungen, die nostalgischen Bilder mit den entsprechenden Requisiten. Deutschland wird als Feindesland fair dargestellt. Der englische Ton ist gut verständlich. Es gibt auch englische Untertitel. Mit der Bildqualität bin ich zufrieden. Ich sehe mir die DVDs mit meinem PC an.
