is this just one jar for $12 or is it a set of 4,6...

This the price for 1 but we will soon be carrying cases of some Kilner items.

Is the mouth of the 4oz jar large enough for a tablespoon measure?

Hi Jonathan! Thank you for your interest in Kilner Round Clip Top Jar, 4-Fl Oz. We have reached out to the manufacturer and they have confirmed a tablespoon can fit in the mouth of this jar. Hope this helps. Please do let us know if there is anything else that you need.

what size should i get to hold a stick of butter?

That will do if you cut it in half, but why not get the Kilmer butter dish.
