Highly recommend for those interested in business
If you're thinking of going back to school to get your MBA, read this book first. Kaufman's premise is that MBA programs are very expensive and teach outdated material. Unless you're going to a top tier school where its name on your degree will yield connections and ins to high finance, you don't need to accrue all that debt to learn what you need. Kaufman started by compiling a reading list of the top 100 business books on his website, PersonalMBA.com. His book takes all the best pieces he learned and presents a high level overview of business in very readable language. Each chapter is broken into many subsections, so you can read about a single concept in a couple of minutes. At the end of *every* section, he has a link to a specific page on his website about it. I found this annoying. I'd rather one link to his book's page that lets me explore from there instead of link after link after link in the book. Even if you're not interested in business or entrepreneurship, I'd recommend the chapters "The Human Mind," "Working With Yourself," and "Working With Others" which are more about the psychology behind decision making with approaches to changing or adopting habits. You also might benefit from checking out the "Sales" chapter to understand what salespeople do and why it works, particularly the section on "Reciprocation." There is an appendix full of book recommendations broken into various categories if you want to learn more. Another appendix lists 49 questions to help you assess how you're doing and approaching your life. A handy resource.

This book is helpful to everyone, and especially to those who wants to start their own business.
First, let me just give the disclaimer that I already have an MBA from a well-known university (albeit not a “top tier” one), and this book was written to replace a traditional MBA for people who wouldn’t get their money’s worth out of it. That being said, I actually really liked this book. In the meat of it, the book does a good job defining what a business is and how it functions. It introduces many key concepts and frameworks that would help any entrepreneur or manager build and run a successful business. Surprisingly, a hefty chunk of the book is dedicated to personal self-development. As far as self-help texts go, it’s a good one though. A traditional MBA is expensive, old-fashioned, and unnecessary for all but a few select professions. Even I have to admit that most of what he says is true, but I don’t in any way regret getting my MBA. There are a few extra perks mixed into the traditional MBA that you can’t get in a book, including networking resources, public speaking and professional writing practice, and direct access to experts (professors).

unexpected read
Not what I expected but full of knowledge and insight. Great if you are someone who wants a refresher or to get some knowledge on a specific topic. I struggled as it is not a book as much as I find it to be more a summary of text book chapters related to personal work experiences and his career. I keep it for a short read here and there but have not managed to get through cover to cover.

Great intro to business for beginners
I just picked up The Personal MBA and I’m really glad I did. The five basic principles are super clear and easy to understand, especially for someone like me who’s new to entrepreneurship. The book makes business concepts feel less intimidating and more practical. I feel like I can actually apply what I’m learning right away. Definitely worth it if you want a solid intro to business without all the fluff.

Mark 3.5/5, a good book but with a lot of padding unfortunately
Mark : 3.5/5 As usual in this kind of book there is a lot of padding. Indeed the author writes two pages when few sentences could be enough and you will also find basic generalities such as "Be nice with your client" or "don't forget to sleep". Finally the author will never miss a chance to remind you how great this book is and how stupid it is to do a real MBA.. sensitive debate I agree but when the author does it every 10 pages it becomes unbearable. YET, this book develops some interesting and useful ideas, and it is very easy to read. Even though you're not interested in creating your own company, you may still find this book interesting by the working methods and the psycological analyzes of human behaviour you can find and how these analyzes can be adapted to companies. In the end I would recommend this book, even if you're not interested in entrepreneurship, but it personally did not change my life. PS: I advise you to skip the first chapter of the book, where the author tells you how great his book is, how clever you were to buy it and how MBA schools are lame (40 pages...). And sorry for the potential mistakes in my critic, english is not my native language :)

Great insighths
Now in my mid-forties, and have spent a lot of my career building business knowledge. Looking to take a step up or launch my own business now I booked a 1-2-1 with my line manager who holds an MBA from University of Jo'burg - was advised that it is a lot of time and expense for no guaranteed pay off at end of career and suggested the a buy a book such as this to confirm and supplement what I already know. About 2/3 of the way through and can see his point. If you have a solid background in business this will confirm what you instinctively know and point you in the direction of what you don't. Pick up a copy <£10 investment is better than >£10000!

Amazing book
This book is easy to understand. It offers a decent amount of basic knowledge when it comes to starting a business. I love how it not only covers the author’s experience and his advice but also other aspects (team working, mental health) that contributes to creating a great business. Would recommend to anyone who are interested in starting their own business but don’t know where to start. This book is good for people that are not interesting in starting business at the same time imo as it covers ideas that are beneficial to personal development

Brilliant, Essential, Rebellious
When you consider what else you can do with the $15 or so it costs to buy this book, the value proposition feels downright ridiculous. For $15 you can buy 3/5ths of a baseball cap, order a round of watered-down drinks or pick up a 1/3rd of a video game. Or, for the same price you can get over 350 pages of clearly explained, entertainingly presented, essential business concepts that will directly and meaningfully enhance your knowledge of business. If you're new to business, it will take the stark raving terror out of the process. If you're a veteran it will help you focus and enhance any venture you're working on and likely inspire more profitable ideas. One of the many stories Josh tells in the book is of a hospital that incorporates simple checklists to prevent infections from developing in patients. These checklists include basic things like reminding doctors to wash their hands. Though almost laughably simple and obvious, the mere act of incorporating the checklists lead to the complete elimination of infections at this particular hospital. The Personal MBA book is the ultimate checklist for all business decisions - as an entrepreneur, investor or even as someone running your own career and household financial system. Anyone who reads this book will have a practical guide to avoiding financial catastrophe and identifying the most promising opportunities. If I had this book a decade ago I would have saved myself from a very unfortunate business experience that cost me over $50,000 in losses and limitless wasted energy. Josh, who is stunningly still under 30 years-old, has a wisdom far beyond his years. He is fiercely intelligent and despite a very pleasant demeanor as a writer, he is a rebel in the best sense of the word. His tone is always moderate, respectful and his arguments are always meticulously researched, expertly and passionately presented. He talks softly but he carries a big intellectual stick. Make no mistake about it. The title of this book is not a gimmick. He thinks business school is a terrible investment and clearly has walked the talk, building a successful career without it. He has a gift for simply articulating complex concepts and has a deep-seated passion for analyzing systems, particularly the workings of the human brain. His tone is never cloying, condescending, egotistical or obnoxious - as so many heinous business and management book titles are. He presents his views with an inspiring confidence that will fuel your business or business-to-be. While reading it I constantly had to put the book down to jot down new ideas. Think of it this way. After absorbing what Josh calls the "mental models" in this book you will find the world of business presenting you with opportunities everywhere you go. It is a lot like buying a car and then seeing that model everywhere. As you adopt the mental models into your own thinking you will feel a shot of inspiration and be empowered to act thoughtfully, and confidently. I recently interviewed for a job and couldn't help but notice interactions that were playing out exactly as described in the book. You know that scene in The Terminator, where Arnold Schwarzenegger sees a menu of options scroll down before his eyes? And he chooses his response from that list? This book is like having a long list of useful ideas to pull from as you make decisions. The concepts articulated in The Personal MBA helped me make progress as an entrepreneur (launched a Website that made a modest profit last year), landed a job in a completely different field that I enjoy and moved to a city better suited to what I really want. I highly recommend making the Personal MBA (both the site and the book) a major part of your studies. The risk is you spend $15 and sell it for say, $8, and lose seven bucks. The potential reward is you create a business you love, earn massive profits, increase your opportunities, avoid disaster and contribute something meaningful to the world through your business. If there's a better risk/reward profile for a $15 investment, I'd love to see it. The Personal MBA: Master the Art of Business

Très bon livre pour ceux qui veulent se donner les moyens de réussir
Livre intéressant qui me donne plein d'idées.
