Essential for my father. Used over 10 years reliably.
Every caregiver that has seen this has been impressed by it—family, nurses, and professional care providers. It has an adjustable base to fit under the feet of one side of pretty much any couch. It proved sturdy and very helpful for over a decade (still in excellent working condition). Depending on your set up, I recommend checking it from time to time to make sure that it is properly positioned under the feet of the couch, just to be sure. I think I had to adjust it one time in 10 years. My father had limited mobility and usually slept on the couch in the living room. He often had difficulty getting himself off the couch to go to the kitchen, bathroom, etc. pushing himself up from the couch from behind with both arms on a soft cushion with nothing to hold on to while regaining balance. This handle allowed him to pull himself up with one arm and hang onto it for stability until he was ready. If legs are not fully reliable, one solid additional point of contact can make all the difference. The couch under which we placed this device was fairly heavy. I have not tested it under a lighter piece of furniture or with a person over 180 lbs. I did test it myself before installing it for dad, and recommend caregivers doing the same. Based on my experience, this product is sturdy, extremely helpful, long,-lasting, and well-designed. It provided a lot of comfort, knowing that dad had something to hold on to. (He had helpers, by the way, but was strong-willed). Overall: fantastic reliable product. Test it yourself in your environment. I would not hesitate to recommend this for an aging parent for someone with limited mobility.

Very helpful
I set this up the other day for my 85yr old mother. It took less than 5 minutes to put it together. No tools necessary - only the allen wrench that was included in the box. It is very sturdy. I lifted the end of the couch and slid it under the 2 legs. It feels strong and stable. It did take my mother a little bit of time to figure out the best method for her to use it. She tried pulling up with 2 hands and it was difficult for her. She is heavy (approx. 200lbs) and her arms aren't too strong. She ended up using only one hand on the couchcane and pushing up off the couch with the other. We had to put this device on her right side due to room configuration and she is left-handed. She probably could have done the 2 hand grip if it was on her left instead of the right. Anyway, all good. She can get up and steady herself with support of this device. I had been worried about her falling as getting up had involved some "rocking" back and forth and a big push to get up - followed by some wobbling. I am a lot less worried about a fall and mom is happy. I recommend this.

THe makers of this product were very thoughtful in making this device
I am very happy with purchasing this sturdy couch cane . I also purchased the try table piece separately that matches up to this cane . Now my father can use it to pull up to stand out of his favorite chair . WIth the tray he can easily eat and drink from a nice device that is adjustable and works with the chair as if it was tailer made for it .. Cane and table are very solid , strong, convenient, easy to setup, and portable enough to move to another chair if necessary . I would like to have this on all my furniture . Only slight setback is the cost but warranted with the quality .

Sturdy support-
I am recovering from Major Back Surgery and temporarily sleeping on our sofa on ground floor of our home until I can safely walk up the 14 stairs to our bedroom on 2nd floor - so I am sleeping on a sofa in our family room - this Couch Cane provides stable support that allows me to SAFELY lie down and pull myslef up to sitting position when I wake up - without it I struggled to find support - especially getting into sitting position after waking up. Prior to getting the Couch Cane I found myself falling off the sofa trying to bring myself to sitting position on the sofa after waking up - now - using the Couch Cane - pulling myself up into a sitting position and swinging my legs over the side of the sofa is very safe and easy - I would strongly recommend this product. Title: CRITICAL SAFETY ISSUE: Base Bar Too Wide for Safe Use on Many Recliners
Misleading photo.. Title: CRITICAL SAFETY ISSUE: Base Bar Too Wide for Safe Use on Many Recliners Rating: 1 out of 5 Stars I purchased the Stander CouchCane through Amazon to provide necessary assistance for my father, who has a condition involving muscle weakness and balance issues (Myasthenia Gravis). Unfortunately, this product poses a serious safety hazard and is not compatible with all recliners, despite what the description implies. The critical flaw is the minimum width of the anchoring base bar. Even at its narrowest adjustment, the bar was still too wide to fit correctly under the primary weight-bearing structure of our standard recliner. For a mobility aid, stability is non-negotiable. Attempting to anchor the wide base bar under only a narrow portion of the chair, like a rear crossbar, would create a dangerous leverage point. The unit would be highly prone to tipping or pivoting forward when the user applies pressure to stand up. Warning: If the base bar does not fit perfectly and securely under the weight-bearing legs/structure of your chair, DO NOT USE IT. This product failed to deliver on its primary promise of providing safe assistance due to this fundamental design limitation. I am extremely disappointed that this design oversight could lead to a fall for an elderly or physically challenged user. I will be returning this product immediately.

Easy to assemble, sturdy and heavy
We are using this for elderly mom, so it's easier for her to get off the chair. It's a heavy product - which is nice. She likes it, and it seems to make a big difference in terms of making her feel more stable standing/ walking around it as well. She is right under 5 ft and 100 pounds, so the couch cane is set to its lowest height setting - it feels very solid that way. I think this will work well for her. If you are on the heavier side and/or very tall, then this may wear out a little more easily over time.

Excellent and versatile aid for my 90-year old dad. It gives him more independence, easy at getting g up and sitting down. It was easy to assemble and move from one stop to another ( chair, sofa)

Le produit a été offert à une personne âgée sans handicap particulier, mais aux articulations raides et à l'équilibre instable. Succès total pour se lever du canapé avec un effort moindre et sans risque de chute.

What do you buy your mother for her 92nd birthday? Well this couch came support handle went down really well. She had been having difficulty getting up from her sofa and this has made such a difference. It fits under the sofa so is really secure and doesn’t wobble. She found it so easy to pull herself up. Love it and highly recommend it.

Easy to put together and appears to be very sturdy. Might need assistance to put cane under chair but no problems apart from that. Makes it much easier to get out of my armchair now and provides good support. Recommended product and well worth the money.
