After extensive research and a strict criteria (high quality and large) I found this chessboard. The quality is stunning, beautiful in fact and at 21 inches it’s large. Looking at different chessboards elsewhere, this one represents excellent value for money, the pieces are weighted and the finish is exceptional. If you’re looking for a large chessboard, that’s practical and of a high quality then this is the one.

Wow! Just wow!That's what I thought when I set this board and pieces up. It looks (and smells wonderful). I guess that means a 13-year-old boy, for example, can't play chess on this board >.<This board is a real joy to play and at £45 (at time of writing this review) it really is a treat that you don’t want to pass up. It looks like a high end set at a vary reasonable price. I am extremely happy with this product. Also happy, as usual, with Amazon Logistics delivery service; you can now track your driver live so you know exactly where they are on a map, and so can plan your day around their estimated delivery time.

Fantastic quality, large pieces and gorgeous smelling too (if you like polished wood like me). The pieces place and glide well and it all looks fantastic as well as being an impressive sized board. Great if you suffer from fat fingers like me and are constantly knocking fiddly bits over, no such trouble here. For forty quid no complaints....lovely item.

I bought this to teach my young kids how to play chess (and draughts - bought separate playing pieces for that). Always wanted to have quite a nice looking reasonably large chess board that could be got out, played and then be packed away without the kids risking losing any of the pieces! This is great for that as all the pieces fit inside the board which folds in half and is held shut with small clasp catches. The pieces themselves are very nicely crafted, caricatured and colour coordinated and are quite appealing. The board's playing surface is also neatly detailed.The only slight downside is the fitted insert of the chess board where the pieces are stored... just feels a little cheap. It's a kind of plastic coated in a fuzzy green felt that has shaped indents where the playing pieces all sit. It looks fine and does the job... but just feels a bit low rent when practically everything else about the board looks and feels quite decent quality.Apart from that, this is a really nice chess set.

This is a really well made and attractive chess set. It's board is well put together and decorated. The chess pieces are large and artistically designed, especially the King and Queen. Overall this is an excellently produced set and it's a bit of a bargain at £40. I can't recommend it more to someone who wants a quality large wooden set.

The big pieces are a delight to handle and look great. Clearly handmade to a pattern but every pawn is an individual! We really love the white King and Queen. The board and pieces have been sitting out since delivery as a coffee table display.

Bigger than I anticipated and absolutely GORGEOUS. Really really really happy with it, even though it doesn't fit in a cupboard, it looks gorgeous on the sideboard. The pieces are delightfully carved and wonderfully tactile. So pleased.

It's a beautiful chess set!

There seems to be many sizes of the same board and pieces and I made sure that I am ordering the 'Ambassador' model for the size of board and pieces I wanted. The Ambassador model comes with really good size chess pieces and the they are really well made, lovey to look. Kids love to play with his chess board. The board itself is very well crafted. Glad to buy this on sale for a very decent price. Chess lovers will enjoy this board and pieces. Pieces too are of a good weight. This item is impressive. The pictures make you feel that green felt to store the pieces are sturdy, but I was surprised that the green housing to store the pieces is a very thin plastic (sort of) material. Its flimsy as well and the item I received had the green felt looking slots for the pieces broken in the corners. I didn't care to return as I feel that even if that breaks I will throw away that and use the folding board for storing the pieces. I must say that I liked the board and did choose to buy as it had nice slots for storing the pieces, which kids love to put back after they are done, but the broken plastic did not make me return the product (or exchange) as the important parts (board and pieces) are so lovely. This is a very strong chessboard, nicely crafted pieces of very good size (some might even say they are really big).
