I wouldn't bother unless your water pressure is very weak. On full blast the water comes out so hard it was hurting my head. I put the restrictor back in. **Q: What are the lithium batteries for?** A: Huh??? Nowhere does it state in listing that it requires batteries. **Q: Is there a way to know when its time to change the filter?** A: Actually yes. You'll know when it needs to be replaced because the flow of the water will decrease. In general the manufactor recommends replacing it every 6 months with your average 10,000 gallon usage. Main reason I purchased this filter was for the chlorine smell reduction and it does a pretty good job at that. Having said that, I will more than likely replace it every 4 months because the Chlorine really get's to me while showering and it's a great neutralizer for that. I hope this helps. **Q: Will this help with rust/iron issues? It's turning my grout and everything orange.** A: I don't think i understand your question , is the culligan wall mount causing rust /iron issues? It isn't for me , so i don't know what is going on or why the filter would be doing that or the chrome itself shouldn't be.
