You can tell because of the red color and in the description it states that it can be used for hot and cold applications. The model lower has black detailing and is only for cold applications. The model above this one is the thermo whip plus. It does have the red coloring but has a slightly stouter appearance because of the thicker walls. The thermo whip plus is different because it is insulated like a thermos and will keep the contents hot or cold for hours without refrigeration or a hot water bath. I hope this helps. **Q: Why do all the other isi gourmet whips have a red trim and this one is black? Is this picture wrong?** A: they come in three colors ours is the black one this is the right pic **Q: Is it possible to get the container (bottom part) separately?
