I bought this book after doing some research of my own on the internet. The book is excellent for beginners as it gives clear, concise information with lots of basic advise to get you going. I don't feel that I need to buy any other book as this covers it all. The chapters are well planned and logical, loads of great photos and pictures. If you are looking for a book to advise you on the basics of starting with pet chickens you won't go wrong with this book, its excellent!

A good first book when you are thinking about getting 'pet' chickens. It is worded simply, no jargon and is a great book to share with your kids. I think if you want just a basic knowledge then this is the book for you, but if you want more (more than pretty pictures and text aimed at youngsters aka dorling kindersley style) you should buy a different book. If I didn't have young kids to pass this book onto to read I'd think it was a bit of a waste of money, sorry.

This is a really great book for anyone considering to keep chickens in their garden. It explains the anatomy of the chicken and egg in good detail and goes so far as to telling you what a chickens daily routine is! With great pictures and helpful hints, this book is a must buy for any potential poultry proprietor!

We are about to embark on keeping pet chickens and wanted a book that explained the basics...it does exactly that. Clear and easy to understand and has some good tips and information. Now looking forward to the arrival of our feathered friends.

This book has wonderful ideas about all different kinds of coops, the actual keeping of chickens, and other useful tip about having your own pet chickens, even in an urban setting. I am very pleased with this book!

A good first chicken book with lot of great pictures, interesting information and a good overview on raising chickens that's put together well. If you're completely new to it, you might need an additional book (or do more research on the internet).

Despite my interest in the images of chickens, I did not buy this for myself. I bought this because I lost a library book. Later I found the book and gave this to a sister.
