What does the TB after the name mean?

USG Hydrostone TB is the low-expansion version of regular Hydrostone. Values from the USG Datasheets, first value is Hydrostone, second is Hydrostone TB Mix Ratio, by weight, parts water to parts powder: 32, 30 to 32 Setting Time: 19-25min, 15-23min Compressive Strength, 1 Hour: 4,000psi, 3,000psi Compressive Strength, Dry: 10,000psi, 8,000psi pH: 7.73, 11.13 Max Expansion: 0.24%, 0.09% Setting time is influenced by the temperature of the water and powder when mixing. Temps in the range of 50-70F extend the setting time, while temps in the range of 70-90F shorten the setting time. Above 80F, the setting time may be just a few minutes. Compressive strength is influenced by completeness of mixing, and USG recommends a power mixing blade for larger batches. A kitchen whisk tool with vigorous motion works for small batches, roughly less than 0.5lb/250g.

Would this be hard enough to cast small details without those small details easily breaking off? And strong enough to send through the mail?

Yes it is very hard. I mail things that are made of hydro stone all the time. I do wrap the thinnest pieces with extra bubble wrap. Hope that is helpful.

Is this good for body casting art (pouring into the casted mold) or is there something better to use?

Don’t think it would be good for that because there are warnings that it can cause irrational or burns to skin. I used it for molding walls and floor tiles for miniature gaming. Worked great for that.

How well does it take color?

Before painting you will need a clear sealer. I use spray paint.
