Are these perennial ?

hello , no, the common field poppy is an annual. however it produces a large quantity of seed which persists for a long time in the soil. this means that it can come up whenever the soil is disturbed. it is very prevalent on chalky soil. actually it is often considered a weed.

As the picture is showing, all mine are dropping now they are all buds… is this normal?

Yes they do an seeds will drop an scatter over your garden. My favourite flower.

What soil conditions do the seeds prefer?

They will grow virtually any where in any soil, rich and poor.

Why does this say 20,000 seeds - do you even get 200?

Poppy seeds are best sown October November and left on top of the soil, don’t dig in or anything and you’ll get flowers, or sow march and hopefully flowers July onwards but they like a cold winter to germinate. I just chuck them directly onto soil and don’t make a fuss over the soil. It doesn’t have to be the best quality for poppys
