Though it is now widely used, apparently, in Japan this type of tea was considered a poor person's drink, as the rice was traditionally added as a 'filler'. The addition of the rice adds a delicious nutty savouriness to the tea and is no doubt the reason for its popularity these days. The price and quality of genmaicha can vary a lot but in my opinion this tea is good in both categories and is simply just very pleasant to drink. I also like that it has organic certification.
