42cms is the top narrowest rung 50cm is the bottom widest rung Hope that is helpful

how wide is the rack? the photo indicates 56 cm (22 inches), whereas the "product information technical details" text says 15 cm.

How strong is it - will the bottom rung take a child's weight?

I would not let a child try to use this as a ladder, or have unsupervised access to it if this was a likely possibility. I think the rung might break if a child weighing tens of kilos attempted to stand on it. The ladder only leans against a vertical surface with no grip and no stability for more than a few towels. I think the main risk is from the ladder slipping. It’s designed to cope with less than about 10 kg of towels max. Why would you want to let a child play on it?
