Does the battery compartment screw down?

It certainly dose screw down and, of course, you could superglue it if you wanted. Personally, I have covered the battery compartment and screw with duct tape so you can't immediately See what’s where! The decibel noise level is huge. A very neat little gadget for a very low price. So small you would hardly know it’s there.

Does the red light stay on?

All the time it is switched on the red light will be on.

On button is very very stiff.

Are you pressing the button or sliding it? It should slide sideways. I use my nail with it being small.

How do you stop the alarm?

It has a switch on the side you turn off and on
