Is this the type of mask i should use before or after washing my hair with shampoo?

After shampoo. Great for restoring moisture and supporting elasticity. African pride have a great pre-shampoo mask its part of their coconut water line and fairly inexpensive https://www.amazon.co.uk/African-Pride-Moisture-Detangle-Condition/dp/B07F6NWJCL

The packaging says organic, no animal testing, no sulphates, silicone, parabens, artificial fragrance, colour or oil but it doesn't say vegan. Bounce, Jessicurl, Inahsi Naturals, Curl Smith and innersense are some of the vegan natural hair brands I'm aware of

Would you recommended this for transitioning hair?

Yes. This deep conditioner is suitable for all hair types.

Does this contain protein

Yes, Certified Organic Hydrolyzed Soy Protein and Certified Organic Coconut Oil but these are quite low down the ingredients list so use without heat if you are concerned about breakage due to protein sensitivity. Mielle organics have a protein free deep conditioner if you want to avoid protein altogether. the Shea Moisture black caster oil mask is protein rich if that is what you are looking for.
