This is my first Kolinksy Sable brush and I wanted to see how much difference there was with synthetic brushes. I think the main difference is the amount of paint it will hold which allows me to paint for longer without reloading the brush. Also, for such a small brush it can cover quite a large area, making it very versatile. The fine point allows me to paint very small details and fine lines. When dry the brush has quite a fluffy appearance unlike synthetic brushes, but as soon as it is dipped in water it regains it's sleek shape, also it doesn't have the snap that synthetic brushes have but that is to be expected. Overall, a really nice brush that has become my go-to along with my larger Silver Black Velvets. Keeping the bristles soft and straight requires that they be well cleaned, conditioned, and repointed after each use. if there is any residue left in the hair or in the ferrel the brush will deteriorate and split. I clean them in WN brush cleaner and wash them out with water - I soap them with Masters cleaner and preserver and point them. They are the best...use them accordingly. **Q: Are these only for watercolor? Do they have acrylic?** A: Because the hairs are soft, very soft (after all, they are sable), I think the brush could only be used with liquid media. I use mine for India ink drawings. If you're using acrylic as you would oil, then maybe the brush could be used as a blender (although it may be too soft for that). If you're using acrylic as watercolor, then the brush should work. Winsor & Newton has a website you can check. It shows this brush only for watercolor. They do have a collection of acrylic brushes. **Q: Which W & N series brush is the best for oil/laquer/acrylic** A: The series 7 is the best for acrylic and ink. I don't know about oils and lacquer, I have never used those mediums. **Q: There are a lot of reviews mentioning inconsistent quality and possible knockoffs.
