I have owned many filters of different types across the years (gravel/bubble filters, internal filters, external filters, hang-on-back filters), and the hang-on-back is without doubt the most convenient sort to maintain. I bought this because I was starting to see some cloudiness build in the water and needed the UV to clear it. Within half a day of using it with the UV light on, the water was crystal clear. Also, I'm amazed at the strength of the flow rate of the water... I have no idea if it is living up to the 800 litres per hour, but the water movement in the tank is similar to that of external filters that claim to be 1000+. It was up and running in about 10 minutes without any fuss of trying to connect pipes and check for leeks that comes with external filters, and there was no messing about moving stuff inside the tank trying to make room for it and hiding it behind plants or rocks like you do with internal filters. Very easy to clean too; lift the lid off, lift out the filter media basket, wash it and put it back... you don't even need to switch the pump off. There is very little that can go wrong with it, and if it ever should, then at this price I'd just buy another one! Edit: just added video for you to see flow of water. It's the filter on the left, the one on the right is a different make but does show the difference in flow rate. The noise is an air pump, not the filters.
