Does this bulb dim with your phone as controller or do you need a dimmer switch / light switch?

Works with your phone. On the app there is a central on/off button on the and 11 smaller buttons to dim the light by fixed percentages from 5 - 100% output. You can also set schedules so your light can be programmed to be on from certain times and you can control the brightness within each time slot on your schedule.

Do you have to subscribe to hive

Not sure! We have Hive but we bought our Hive from amazon so we don’t pay anything else for it.

How many active plugs do you need, one in every room ??

i am only using one hive plug fitted to a stander lamp. and a hive bulb in different part of the house. they work ok with the phone app. Some items from dyson wont work on the plug .

Would this work with an osram lightify gateway?

I’m sorry but I have no idea what that is?! I have just replaced normal bulbs with these, they are Hive Active so they are set up on my Hive App and work with Alexa too
