## Overview

The Engineer SS-02 Solder Sucker Pump features an innovative silicone nozzle designed for superior suction and solder removal. Weighing just 52g and measuring 15.3 x 2 x 2 cm, this compact tool allows for easy one-handed operation and can withstand direct contact with soldering irons up to 350°C. Crafted in Japan with the highest quality materials, it’s perfect for both professional and industrial use.

## Description

This desoldering pump is at the cutting edge of solder removal technology. The flexible heat resistant silicone tip allows the the nozzle to come into direct contact with the soldering iron without damage and allows the nozzle to 'envelope' the solder joint. This dramatically improves suction and therefore less solder residue remains after each press/action. Easily disassembled for quick maintenance. The ss-02 comes with a one spare silicone tube which can be cut to yield several fresh nozzles.

Review: Genuine item, exceptional quality - There are a lot of fake clones of this product out there, but I received a genuine Engineer brand item from this seller as expected. The quality is amazingly good, as I expected from product reviews on youtube and this brand's reputation for making quality tools. I finally got to try it out the other day and it worked perfectly, I'm extremely pleased. The innovative flexible and heat resistant silicone tip seems to work really well, not that I've actually experienced using one with the old rigid plastic kind to be fair. Addressing some points made in a couple of critical reviews: (1) I have average-sized man hands and I found it perfectly comfortable to hold and operate. It does not need a backplate to the plunger. (2) I did not find the spring to be too strong at all. Of course a strong spring means better suction, and the reviewer was comparing against something that is 20 years old, the spring of which has probably weakened over time as springs can do. I did not feel any thumb fatigue at all when removing solder from a 30-odd pin connector. (3) It takes only a mere few seconds to unscrew/rescrew the front end if/when needed, the reviewer's estimation of half a minute is a big exaggeration. (4) The 350°C heat resistance of the silicone tip is not an issue, you don't need your iron all the way up at 400°C, I achieved my work perfectly easily at 340 and you're only touching the silicone to the iron for a split second in any case. (5) I found the price to be perfectly reasonable. (6) Another reviewer found that the rod that pushes out clogged solder from the tip did not extend all of the way through the silicon tube, but it did on mine, so perhaps they did not push the plunger down fully, or he had a overly long bit of tube fitted, or the design has been tweaked.
Review: Best I’ve used to date. - It’s a bit pricey compared to the competition but it does it’s job incredibly well. The tool is very well made and feels like a quality item. The spring is pretty firm so requires a bit of effort to push but this is what gives it the strength. When you button is pushed the action is smooth solid with only a little bounce to the tool. The little silicone hose tip will look tiny but it easily fits over even a 2mm solder tab. The hardest part was holding the board still so I could get the sucker into place and with a good seal. So long as I did this and the joint was fully melted id get a nice clean result. The only real down side is the solder is pushed out again when you prime it and this can often get stuck, especially if it was a lot of solder. This just pulls off easily however. Occasionally you may need to need to pop the tube off. The picture shows a removed 3PDT foot switch. I was struggling with solder wick and a large blue and yellow pump. This engineer model had them all clean in 1-2 pumps and only needed a little wiggle to free the switch with no board damage.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Where can I get replacement silicone tips?**
A: I know Adafruit also sells replacement tube / tips https://www.adafruit.com/products/2476

**Q: Does it hurt much when it smacks you in the lip?**
A: if you're speaking about the plunger when it resets, haven't experienced it myself but i don't think it would. but if someone else was holding it while they smacked you in the lip, i'd lean towards yes.

**Q: Are there any extra silicon tubes with this or one has to buy them separate?**
A: Mine came with one extra tube as well as a small piece already on the solder sucker itself.

**Q: Can I buy replacement tips from somewhere besides Adafruit?**
A: Spare Tube For SS-02 (2pcs./set) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003K0B3HG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_-y4zFbX83XD5P

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Powerful and accurate suction
*by C***E on 1 August 2023*

One of the best solder suckers I have used. I'll never use the cheap colourful plastic suckers again after using this one. Works perfectly at locating wet solder and sucks it up instantly leaving no solder blobs. This is definitely due to the little silicone (I think) tube on the nozzle. It lets you place on top of the solder tip without melting unlike the others. Even adding a silicone tube to the cheap ones will not do them justice because the reaction time of the sucker cannot compare to this brilliant bit of kit. Well worth keeping in any electrical engineers or DIY toolbox. Professional bit of kit. Don't cheap out. I was skeptical but the risk was worth it.
