READ BEFORE YOU BUY
This is an excellent little device. The receive sensitivity is really very good, but of course it does need a reasonably decent TV signal area to function at optimum. There are a few reviews on the Net which say that one needs to re-scan every time the device is switched off and then on. That is not accurate. The results of a scan are stored on your playback device. If you change your location so it is in a different TV Transmitter area then you may need to re-scan, but only then. Of course this does mean that if you connect to a different Phone/Tablet, then you need to do an initial scan, but the details are then stored on that device. The WiFi range is not fantastic, but better than adequate. If you are in the same or an adjoining room everything is usually fine.I can get house-wide coverage when the EyeTV is located in a centrally located first floor bedroom. The WiFi has no security options, but given the nature of the EyeTv, and the fact it can only connect to one device at a time, that is not a drawback. When you close the APP, the WiFi connection is automatically dropped on your Phone/Tablet, which introduces the only problem I have discovered. It seems that the EyeTV detects this providing the WiFi connection was good, and re-sets itself as 'free' for another connection. If the WiFi connection was weak this does not happen, and you cannot re-connect unless you physically switch the EyeTV off and back on.In reality this is not a big problem, as most people will be using the EyeTV in the same room as their Android device.Another nice touch is that the EyeTV functions when plugged into a USB power source whilst using it, so the internal battery stays topped up.Tha APP is a joy to use. Easy to select channels, shows details of what is showing now, and next during the selection process. In addition there is quite a comprehensive program guide, with a synopsis of what is on. Being able to record is something that may be useful occasionally, as is its 'time shifting' option. The EyeTV is worth buying as a 'fun device', even if you are not sure whether you need it. It is so small and portable you can carry it in a shirt pocket, and is great in a car for those 'bored' moments when parked up for a while. The supplied larger aerial has a magnetic base, so can be placed on the roof of a vehicle. Of course when 'out and about' there are 3G/4G options available to watch TV, but often those are not ideal, either because of lack of signal, or the cost.Providing you are in an area with a reasonably decent TV signal available, then the EyeTV is simply great. If you try the small telescopic aerial, then you will need a very good signal. The larger aerial will be better. If you are outside then TV signals from the transmitter are always stronger. If you want to use the EyeTV at home, then the supplied adapter that allows you to connect it to your house aerial is useful. It is just a shame 'Elgato', who produce the device, did not bring out any PC software for it. Being able to use it with a laptop would be the final 'icing on the cake'.One tip, if you intend to use the EyeTV mainly within range of your local TV Transmitter, I recommend you connect it to your home TV aerial when doing the initial scan. This will ensure all the available channel information is stored on the Tablet/Phone you will be using. Then, when you use the device on small aerials, even if some of the channels are not strong enough in a particular location, the scan information will be there, and by moving around you may be able to view the channel you want.

Elgato EyeTV Mobile TV wi fi module
I bought this to use with ipad mini running OS 7.0.6. It works OK but as the instructions say need to keep the module near a window and also use the Ariel with long lead.Short antenna that plug into the unit simply don't work, may be the signal is not that strong in the area.Unit itself is quite plasticky and flimsy though the picture looks solid unit. Size is about the size of a small match box. I doubt the durability of on off switch since you have to use it frequently.Even when the unit is on, if I disconnect the wi fi signal from Ipad to use internet, it may not connect back when I switch to elgato signal on EyeTV W 305666 connection. Then I have to turn the TV module off and switch back on again.Simply I can't keep the Elgato keep plugged in to a power supply and switched on the TV on iPad when I want it.When I get it connected signal is good and DAB TV work well.TV guide facility is a bonus.I tried to get the signal on Iphone 4S, that did not work though it says it works with iphone 4.It did not work on HTC HD either and it is not on their compatible product list anyway.Simply it will not work on all the android and apple products even though some are listed as compatible on manual. So make sure at least your intended use is in their compatibility list before you buy this product.

Perfect for TV on the go.
Smaller than a matchbox this little wireless gadget turns your mobile phone or tablet into a portable TV. In Birmingham even with the supplied telescopic aerial I was able to tune in to 96 stations both TV and radio. One needs to download the (free) Elgato TV W mobile app onto phone and tablet to watch TV. One downside is that only one device can use the tuner at a time. The software is fully featured so one can record programs and also pause live TV if required. The EPG seem accurate. In the box apart from the device is a USB charging cable a USB to coaxial cable and a rod aerial with magnetic base. The one BIG advantage of this device over software solutions to "mobile TV" is that there are no data charges to worry about. All in all an excellent product that works well and is certainly cheap for what it delivers.May 24 - as an update the device no longer works!Contacted Amazon who are sending a replacement - lets hope this lasts longer that the first one!!

Does a great job.
Great little gadget that I connected to my smart projector which now gives me all the Freeview channels on a giant screen. Picture is not HD but it is of a decent quality and much better than most internet TV which you have to pay for.I was a little worried it would not connect to my Spro 2 projector but it did effortlessly. The recording abilities could be better but you can not have everything and it can record the channel it is on and you can pause and start the channel as well.So if you do not want a great big box or you need portable television then grab yourself one of these , run it cordless for around 4.5 hours or just connect it to a power source and watch it limitlessly.
