A big 600ml bottle of Gaviscon. Perfect for keeping by the bed. I personally prefer the standard Gaviscon to the double action variety. Yes, it can take longer to work, but as the Double Action Gaviscon neutralises the acid in your stomach, as well as putting a barrier on the top, your body can no longer extract the same quantity of nutrients from your food. This is particularly important if you are ill or an athlete, as one of the main issues will be the lack of protein digestion. In the long term, taking the stomach acid neutralisers (and I include Proton Pump Inhibitors in this category as well), is to be discouraged, as your body is constantly trying to compensate, by producing more and more stomach acid. Much better, to try to cope with just using barrier antacids such as this Gaviscon original. For this reason I always take the standard when I'm at home. I do take some Double Action sachets with me when I'm out, but they really are only for emergencies. The sodium content is quite high, so, do be aware if you are on a medically indicated, reduced sodium diet. Overall, this is a good antacid liquid. It has a pleasant peppermint flavour, it contains no sugar, so is suitable to have after cleaning your teeth. As it doesn't neutralise your stomach acid, only 'cap' it, it is healthier in the long term. Recommended. I hope you found this review helpful.

I have gastric reflux disease and have been prescribed proton pump inhibitors (Omeprazole) for some years now. However, I like to avoid taking drugs all the time and so use this product at bed-time most of the time and it seems to work well in keeping my reflux under control. Well worth the money and recommended for people with my condition. Please note that the bottle is very heavy and strong and so don't store it in a cupboard above a sink or in a room with tiled floors - it you drop this thing, it'll smash what it hits on the way down to the ground! My bathroom sink didn't survive when I dropped this bottle on it from no more than a foot or so above it - the repair cost me £500. Maybe a plastic bottle would be better than glass.
