I ordered these to replace some old cheaper speakers that I had fitted only as a temporary measure. These come up a little larger than my old 8" units so I did have to saw the hole in my ceiling a bit more but a template is supplied with these to make that job easier. Once fitted I tested them and the quality of sound is nothing short of terrific, I really wasn't expecting this sound to come from a sub £100 pair of ceiling speakers. I have a crossover set on my AVR at 80hz so I can't say to much for the base below that level however every frequency down to the 80hz is true and clear, the midrange is especially good, I am now hearing tones that were hidden from me on my old speakers. I have set these as my rear surround speakers on my Dolby Atmos 7.1 setup but after hearing these on the rear I am going to be purchasing another 2 sets for the Atmos height speakers again replacing some older cheaper speakers that I fitted some time ago. After testing that everything worked well and that I intended to keep these, I then sprayed the frets black just to match with my others, I think that they look good in black, contrasting against the white of the rim and the tweeter. Very good speakers and great value.

I was a bit skeptical about how good these could be considering the price, but now I have them installed I am very pleased. Sound quality is good and the design is good. I needed to fit them from below though a ceiling of more than100 year old lath and lime plaster. It was a messy job cutting the hole, but once done the speaker fitted well. Making a fitment above ones head is tiring and fiddly but the design of the speakers makes this easy, just turn the screws and legs pop out and close up pulling the speaker into snug place. The manual does not tell you how to remove the grill, this is done before placement (to access the screws) by pushing the legs back. This is OK for placement, but once in place, removing the grill may not be very difficult. I was surprised that there is no o-ring for the seal against the ceiling. All in all I was pleased with the buy and I will probably be buying more for other rooms.

There are ok, not bad, do for watching a kids movie etc and tv but wouldn’t expect to change the audio world. Very loud lots of power, but just sound a little artificial, if music run through.

Very happy with these great value for money. I have used these in my cinema room in my garage with a projector and a pioneer amp. What wasn’t clear to me was there is two in each box which I was very happy about because I thought it was only one. It’s not very clear how to get the grills of but there is a little pin in each box see picture they can be put in without having to do anything from above the ceiling you can cut the holes out with the template provided I used a plaster board saw then you can use some pipe or anything long and slim to feed the cables from the holes to the amp I used Amazon basics speaker cable. There isn’t much bass but as I am not using for dance music it doesn’t bother plus it’s doesnt upset the neighbours to much because the garage isn’t very well insulated great for movie nights highly recommended.

I got this as it was a good price with good reviews and so far it works as expected. I got what I paid for but it is a bit of an eyesore and it’s 27cm in diameter with a cut-out hole of 23.7cm so much bigger than the ad led me to believe. However there’s some poor advice on other reviews on removing the grill: To remove the grill, there’s a small metal hook that comes with the product. All you need to do is hook through a small hole in the grill and pull it off the casing. If you don’t have the hook, or you lose it, just bend a paper clip. Nothing complicated about it so ignore the convoluted advice. The only other issue I have is that if/when I want to replace it, the cut-out diameter is not a common size and I am finding it hard to find other speakers that would fit the same hole. I wish I got a smaller speaker with, say, a 200mm diameter cut-out hole which would give me more replacement opportunities.

I put 4 of these in the corners of the ceiling in a newly fitted kitchen. I had the advantage that the old ceiling had to come down, so getting cables and indeed fitting the speakers was pretty straight forward. In a retro fit, I suspect it could be a challenge to fit them neatly into a bit of old lath & plaster, but into new plasterboard was as easy as can be. The nifty 'swing out' lugs work really well and hold the speaker nicely in place (I didn't use any of the supplied sticky strips). Beware they need a big hole to fit into though, and so may only just fit between the joists in many UK homes. These speakers sound good too - I'm no audiophile, but I like to think I have reasonably keen ears, and I find these to be good (I've used some fairly heavy weight speaker cable). There's decent bass (which admittedly makes the floor upstairs shake), and the directable tweeters mean you get the sound from them where you want it (which in practice means a pretty balanced sound).

These speakers are very solidly made and the mounting system is excellent. I was a bit disappointed when i first received them and hooked them up to my amp as the bass was quite poor - BUT when they were mounted in the ceiling, they were transformed and the sound from them is excellent. The aimable tweeters are a nice feature too and I got a really good 'sweet spot' which isn't easy with ceiling mounted speakers normally. I power these with a Gemtune SMSL SA-36A (PRO) Class T Amp, which gives a good enough volume for my kitchen setup, although they could easily handle a lot more power.

Great speakers at a great price and very easy to install. I installed mine in the kitchen and they sound great! The frequency range starts at 60Hz so it's low enough to get pretty much all the low end stuff, so great for every day listening. That said, if you wanted to really turn up the volume then a subwoofer would compliment them nicely. I had some issues with the delivery from the courier which Thompsons followed up on all the way, so excellent customer service from them also.

These are great speakers, the tweeter can be directed after installation or at any time without removal of the metal cover grill. Very powerful speakers that provide excellent sound and finish quality. I purchased the 8" ones and glad I did over the smaller ones. I was worried about appearance, but painting them before installation, made them almost disappear into the ceiling. Never installed these before, here is what I learned in the process: 1). To remove metal cover grill: Sit on couch, invert speaker onto lap, swing locking clips toward center, push top of tab to force off metal cover grill while holding speaker just off your lap. POP! 2. Paint metal cover grill and outer plastic flange before installing. I used a small roller (light paint saturation) to match texture of ceiling. Do two coats. Use a big needle or small tack to clear any paint-filled holes. Once painted, they almost disappear into the ceiling. 3. Make a fist sized hole in the center of where you plan to have your speakers and reach in to confirm that you don't hit any rafters or blocking BEFORE you make your larger cut-out. You may be unpleasantly surprised and may need to shift your location, so don't make the big hole until you are sure all is clear. The clip/locking tabs need clearance all around (about 1/2"). 4. Paper cut-out template provided is a bit undersized (thank you Pyle for making it sturdy cardboard and pre-cut), they probably imagine self-installers are not so careful. Cut it atleast 1/8" bigger all around. 5. To avoid damage to your finished sheetrock during cut-out operation: use a dremel tool to cut thru the paper layer of the sheetrock completely or do multiple passes with a mat knife. Otherwise you risk spalling off large chips of sheetrock which you don't want to patch back. To reseat any chips flaked during agressive sawing, keep elmers glue handy to patch back smaller chips on the finished side as you go. Then drill out a 3/8" or larger hole in center and near edges to insert your sheetrock saw. 6. Most likely you will cut the sheetrock slightly off-vertical on the cut line, so use your saw and go back to straighten the cuts. 7. Carefully wash you hands before final installation of speaker. 8. Test each speaker before installation. **This probably should be item #1. You won't regret doing this work (less than an hour not counting crawling thru the attic), the payoff of these speakers is huge. Verisimilitude confirmed when all our pets completely freaked out by the quality of the surround sound for very low investment. Enjoy.
