Garmin Approach G8

Very neat with a great screen & looks well built, but I have two issues.It does not always move to the next hole automatically & when it doesn't it sits on the last hole even though you've moved on several holes. In other words it doesn't catch up with you it's sits waiting g for you to say the hole is finished. Not a major issue but a real annoying one.The second issue is the slope adjustment . My home cousen has moderate inclined to raised greens, in most cases 10 to 20 yds, however the G8 doesn't see most of them & makes no adjustment & in one case thinks there's a reduction in height. I was shocked to find, confirmed by Garmin Support, that this unit does not pick up courses automatically. My course has 3 9s, & when I start playing the first nine I have to select the first nine from the list (& my course is way down the list), & then when I move to the second 9, standing on the first tee, Garmin doesn't automatically pick this course up, even though it's on the list. Satellite working perfectly, all latest updates installed.Shocking that for this price, such a basic feature is not included. All my playing partners with cheaper units pick up course automatically. I spent the extra £ on this as I thought the Garmin name would give me a premium product - however there is much better value available elsewhere. Nothing in the unit justifies such a premium over its competitors, especially given that it doesn't contain this most basic feature. Very disappointing.

Had problems initially in using the Approach G8.My old GPS once the course was loaded you were up up running, with the Approach 8 you need to press Play before selecting the course, then you are up and running. Without pressing the magic Play you are going no where.

Has definitely not livedup to expectation--Poor Battery Life--not a patch on the I Phone Android Golfshot AppAlso not accurate--I mean it it is not accurate--we tested it in so many places on the courses here in Dubai--compared it to the GPS on the carts,the Golf Shot and Physically paced it out--it is way out in some points. Disappointing.Way over priced--I was expecting all singing all dancing--never got a tune.Anyone who thinks this is good has not tried the other devices out there!!!!!!!CF

This is a smart device, used it on home course half a dozen times and a different course once and it is really helpful when you need it. I'm on the steep slope of the learning curve because of all it's functions, but looking forward to matching it's ability and knocking some shots off. It comes with a stylish carabina and holder, which is used to attach it safely to the trolley. It comes with a charger and the device indicates battery level so there is no excuse for running out of power.

Helpful on the course and good large screen too but probably a bit too many feature for me to use effectively!

I have had 2 of these and both have died just over the 2 year mark and out of the “support “ period. I don’t think for a product that costs £300 and is used around once a week that is acceptable. For this reason I wouldn’t recommend this product and will not be buying another one for golf or any other sports

Used several times now and no issues at all. Larger screen over my previous G6 a bonus too.
