Well worth considering
This is a great book, full of inspiring ideas, with projects which are not too taxing for someone with basic scrollsaw skills. Some of the woodimals, such as the elephant and dachshund, are particularly appealing. At first sight it seems biased towards American creatures, but in fact out of the 56 patterns, there are 5 fish, 17 dogs, 12 North American animals and 22 from other continents. It's a bit heavy on the dogs, and some of the names take a bit of looking at to work out. There is a step-by-step guide to the cutting of the first animal, a lion, and it should be fairly straightforward to work out the others. There is a list of around 400 patterns in the back, which can be downloaded from Jim Sweet's website: they cost 5 dollars each. For anyone serious about cutting the whole set, it's cheaper to buy the DVD at 144 dollars plus shipping. You'd need to make an awful lot of sales to cover that cost. One very minor improvement to the patterns would be an indication of grain orientation for best effect (there is a note for the flamingo to avoid breakage on the legs). In conclusion, this is a book worth getting to give you a lot of fun in being creative. The only trouble is, where are you going to put them all?
