Compact and practical
I had grown up with a garden (and birds), and spent many years in a home with a garden which was a bird paradise. Then for many years I lived in a top floor flat where the only birds I saw were seagulls. When I moved into a flat with a garden, among the first things I did were to adopt a cat from a cat shelter (and get a collar with a bell for the cat to wear, to alert the birds), get several squirrel-proof bird feeders, and buying this book. The book is compact in size, which is practical for carrying in the pocket, so I can easily slip into a pocket and take it into the garden with me. The structure and layout are practical. The illustrations are nice. The information is useful - especially what feed to offer to encourage what type of bird. So whenever I saw a new bird, I would check what kind of meal it would like, and tried to provide it. Fortunately, my cat turned out to have no interest in hunting birds. He enjoys sitting and watching them, and they seem to understand that he is no danger. He has created his own classification system for birds, which alas does not match the books'. Small birds (robins, tits, sparrows) are '"me-e-e". Medium-sized birds (such as blackbirds) are "mayyyy". Large birds (seagulls, magpies) are "mkekekekek". He loves to watch birds in the garden as much as I do, and always tells me what he has spotted. He's more attentive than I am, and if he says for example "mayyyy", I follow the direction of his gaze, and sure there'll be a medium-sized bird. :-) It's good to have this book handy for more specific identification. :-)

Pocket size ๐
I been buying bird ๐ฆ ๐ฆโโฌ books over the last few months all of interest, but one thing they don't give is an idea on what the garden birds eat . But this little pocket size book has just that information I been looking for also more detail about each birds behaviour. I would definitely recommend to others, also it is value for money and it would be easy for any bird twitchers to have in their hands or pockets checking watch bird they have just seen. ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ท๓ ฌ๓ ณ๓ ฟ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ท๓ ฌ๓ ณ๓ ฟ

Great Little Windowsill Guide!!
I am glad I ordered this pocket guide. It is very informative and the clear photos & illustrations of each species both juvenile and adult I have found useful when trying to identify a new visitor to the garden. The book is very suitable for the beginner and birds can be found by name or by area where they were seen - Garden birds of Britain and Ireland; Town & Park birds; European garden birds. Most of the species are featured over 2 pages & gives both common & latin names, how to identify it, it's habits, feeding, breeding, sounds it makes and when & where it is found. At the front there is also useful tips on how to encourage birds into the garden & how to care for them. My only criticism (and the reason I have only given it 4 stars) is that it is very small compared to other pocket guides around and it could be improved by enlarging photos as some are rather small. Overall it is a great book at a great price!!

Love this tiny, useful book! Love how clear and concise it is for identification while not being dry like most id books. Simple and perfect for beginners or I guess more advanced birders. I'm gonna spend a lot of time spying on robins in the garden. Above all, two points : 1) the author refers to the long tailed tit as a "shape like a ball of fluff with a long tail !" Which is just delightful 2) I have Adhd and this was still an easy read. It's great to learn in a non intimidating way, bird by bird. I'd definitely recommend it !

And, I might add, beautiful writing. I am not a birder but once I started reading this book I couldn't quit. If you want to add some beauty to your life I highly recommend you buy the Kindle version of this book.
