Confidence Boost
Now I have decided my new colouring hobby is here to stay it is time to splash out on some top quality pencils. After much research, I have narrowed my search down to 2 choices. I will try a small box of each. The first is this box of 12 Faber-Castell polychromes. Not sure if I can add anything to all the previous reviews, but they are really lovely pencils to use. It surprised me how much better my colouring looked in my practice book. I wasn't using one of the really beautiful books I have, but a book with simple pictures to practice techniques yet my efforts were so much better than I have previously managed, thanks to these great pencils. I was able to create so many colours from this small set, the pencils were beautifully smooth and easy to blend and layer. As a comparative beginner to colouring, I did wonder if I would bother with expensive pencils as I am no artistic expert, just someone who always really enjoyed colouring as a child: tried it again as a relaxing hobby and found I love it just as much as when I was little. Having read many colourists reviews, watched plenty of YouTube demos I thought i would see if better quality pencils would make much of a difference, and am amazed at the outcome. These 12 pencils have improved my results so much and have given me an enormous boost of confidence. I was worried my efforts would not do my beautiful books justice, but this is no longer the case. I have no problem in thoroughly recommending these pencils, and don't believe that for me at least, others will beat them, but will try another manufacturers small set just to see.

Expensive but worth it
I bought these pencils for my daughter who was studying design for GCSE, which involved a lot of sketching and shading of drawings. I could see the difference when she started using these for shading - the colours are strong and clean, and they colour smoothly and evenly - and she said they were so much nicer to use than cheap pencils, and made it much easier to produce neat, evenly coloured designs. I don't know if this would make a difference to her grade in itself, but it did mean she was happier to spend time working on her designs, better motivated, and she felt more satisfied with the finished sketches. The pencils colour smoothly, can be blended but don't smudge as long as you're careful, and the leads can be sharpened easily without breaking too often. The tin is attractive and practical for school, protecting the pencils without taking up too much space. These pencils are expensive, but for an artist or older child who will look after them, well worth the extra money.

Superb Quality
These coloured pencils really are worth the extra money over cheaper options. This is my second set of these pencils and I couldn't be happier with the purchases. Presentation The Pencils just look premium as soon as you see them or pick them up. They come in a metal tin, giving beautiful presentation and a professional look. Quality The quality of the pencils is of a very high standard, when you move up from buying Caryola coloured pencils to these, you can really see why they cost that little bit extra. The pencils also sharpen very well, I haven't had any breaks in the lead. Usage The pencils are Polychromos - for those of you who aren't massively 'into' art and different types of pencils, this basically means they are blendable. They produce very vivid colours - even more so when colours are added on top of one another to produce layers making the colour stand out on the page. I would highly recommend these pencils to anyone looking for a more professional or quality set. The range of colours provided is sufficient for a beginner like me.

Very good - at a price.
Excellent quality and vibrant colours. Good construction which allow easy sharpening without frustrating breakages. Deserving of 5 stars except for the price…quality should cost more but I think these aren’t the greatest value.

Fantastic Pencils
I purchased the tin of 12 colours to see if these pencils were as good as everyone says before parting with a lot of money for the full set. I shouldn't have worried, they are brilliant. Depending how hard you press, the colours can either be very soft and gentle or full on bright and colourful. There are a good range of colours in this small tin, and as with most good quality pencils the colours can be blended to create an infinite variety of shades and tones. The coverage is good and I have found that I don't get the typical pencil lines you can get with cheaper pencils when colouring, especially when you colour in small circles. They are in a totally different league to children's colouring pencils and I would recommend them to anyone who enjoys adult colouring, which is the reason I purchased them. I have now purchased the tin of 120 colours and am delighted with them. Following my recommendations a further two full sets have been purchased by other family members.

Amazing colours from a 12 pack!
I have an admission to make, I am currently waiting for a pack of 36 of these pencils which I ordered from elsewhere last week - I couldn't wait to see what they were like having only used store brand cheapo pencils in the past - these had lowered in price so I ordered them Friday with next day delivery.... They are absolutely lovely! They just glide, no scratchiness and they're lovely to blend. They work well with the Derwent thick blender pen too. I've done a complete colour chart this morning and begun trying them out on out some simple flower pictures where there is enough space to blend and use light and shade. I had a good look at reviews about different types of pencils and these came out best by far! So, I now have a set to practice and play with which are also portable - the case is very good and will keep them all in place and from jiggling around. Then, when my larger set arrives I can switch out colours into the 12 tin to take out and about with me - very good for something to do whilst sitting in the park during lockdown!

Wonderful and out of the world!
I am truely beginner for using the pencils, but this has been a really fun using these pencils as they are vivid and highly pigmented in nature. They shine and blend very well. The only thing is required a lot of practice to get the desired results and you need patience with the pencils as they are hard and techniques to use them is going from light shade to dark shade and putting layers and layers. In that way they do not get smudged. But, the guide book which comes with the colors should contain the knowledge about mixing colors to produce a different color. So, u need to produce colors by experiments. As comparing with the Derwent vex based pencils, they are very different and stay sharp and long time. No need to sharpen frequently. The have become my facourite. The price u pay for them is really fade in front of the quality of these pencils. One and last thing u can use the paraffin oil like baby oil for smooth blending.

Excellent Product. One of the Best Coloured Pencil Sets on the Market.
Faber-Castell Polychromos is a beautiful artist quality coloured pencil set. The down-side, they are a expensive, and the 12 pack set is limited in its colour selection so I had no choice but to purchase additional colours open stock. With that said, all the main colours are included, and these pencils are delightful to work with. I am currently in the search for the perfect coloured pencils and I have purchased the main brands and their water soluble counter-parts- Prismacolor Premier (****), Derwent Color-soft (*** 1/2), Derwent Inktense (*****), Staedtler Mars Triangular (*** 1/2), Staedtler Ergosoft (**** 1/2), Staedtler Karat Aquarell (*****), Stabilo ALL (*** 1/2), and I will even include the sub-par Crayola brand (*) here. All have their pros and cons; as expected, the pricier ones - usually artist grade pencils, are the better products with some exceptions, and the Polychromos are becoming my favourite. Although I still like the Prismacolor due to the range of colours available, its smooth application, and much lower price point (in Canada), the Polychromos are just as soft, velvety, with beautiful, vibrant pigments. Another plus and this sets it apart from the Prismacolors: these are durable due to a slightly thicker pencil. Their rich pigments blend and layer well, mixes well with other brands, leaves no wax bloom, and you are able to get a sharp edge with very minimal breakage. If you are not on a budget and can afford these sets (I recommend the larger sets), these are highly recommended for artists of all ages and skillsets- although they may be a bit pricey for the students/artists on a budget. The only colour where other brands gave the Polychromos a run for their money is the black. This is where I found the Prismacolor edged out the Polychromos slightly (although all take a back seat to the exquisitely black Stabilo ALL). Still the Faber-Castell Polychromos is a high quality pencil set; creamy smooth laydown/application, vibrant, professional output, great durability, and dynamic colour selection (their largest set is 120 colours). These will enhance all of your coloured pencil art pieces. Love them.

Excellent
Had always wanted to own the these and got the set of 12. The pleasure received from using these were not less than that anticipated. Loved up to it. I had a Derwent colorsoft set of 72 prior to buying this. What I liked the most was the even spread of color and pressure.
