## Description

From the manufacturer Fisher-Price Think & Learn Code-a-pillar With Code-a-pillar , development really comes into play See what develops as kids play with Code-a-pillar . Problem-Solving Skills Once kids can 'program' a path for Code-a-pillar , the sky's the limit. It opens the door to problem solving as they figure out how to get Code-a-pillar to go wherever they want. Planning & Sequencing Skills After rearranging his segments a few times, kids will discover that if they plan out a path for Code-a-pillar and put his pieces together in the right sequences, they can get him to follow it! Critical Thinking Skills The more kids rearrange Code-a-pillar pieces, they more they develop critical thinking skills by 'programming' different combinations to send him in different directions. Make lots of fun connections Can your child make Code-a-pillar go from 'Start' to 'Finish'? Place the 'Start' and 'Finish' targets on the floor. The path he takes to get there is up to your preschooler! Or you can turn any room into an obstacle course! Have your child figure out how to rearrange Code-a-pillar to send him under a table or around a chair. Or draw a map together and see if you can get Code-a-pillar to follow it. What's in the box 1 Motorised Head, 3 Move Forward segments, 2 Turn Right 90 degree segments, 2 Turn Left 90 degree segments, 1 Sound Action segment, and 2 Destination Targets.

Review: Superb - I love this, but heres' why: It comes well packaged and once opened is very well made and solid. The code-a-pillar essentially is made of many segments with each one dictating an action. They all interlink via chunky usb connectors essentially. This is really good and encourages the concept of coding/programming and logic skills. I like you can buy replacements and extra segments easily and it really is a joy to play with with my son. It coped fine on carpet and hard surfaces, though hard surfaces are best. The only minor downside is the volume is not adjustable and some may find it too intrusive. My son has had rough moments with the toy too and its coped really well, its very solidly made.
Review: Great toy for toddlers and adults alike! - Bought this for granddaughter (she is 3 yrs old) and it looks very solidly built and easy to change the sequential parts around. We have only just been able to deliver it and give it to her over the fence due to lockdown. She loves it! She did get a little frustrated as she expected it to 'follow' her but I'm sure she'll get the hang of it quite quickly. You can also buy an extension pack which gives you extra options and longer sequences. We'll let her get the hang of what is currently available before purchasing the additional pieces. We were worried that the batteries wouldn't last long but they at least survived our visit. We are considering buying rechargeable batteries for it though to keep the little one happy.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does this do well on carpet? What kind of floor space is needed? (We have a small wood floor, but larger carpeted floor).**
A: No, it does not work on standard house carpet. It'll work slowly on thin carpet, but not at all on thick stuff. You'll need an area about 8' by 15' to play this without hitting things

**Q: Can you mute this toy? It's so loud**
A: I agree that this toy is much too loud! I was able to hack my Code-a-Pillar and disable the audio entirely. Here are the details: http://anngadzikowski.com/hack-your-code-a-pillar/

**Q: Do you think this is an appropriate toy for a 5 yo birthday gift?**
A: My 4 year old loves it! I think a 5 year old would get even more enjoyment because they would be even better at the problem solving part. Here is a link to see my 4 and 2 year old playing with it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sg2i15_DY9o

**Q: What age is this recommended for? I am thinking about getting it as a gift for a 1 year old.**
A: As a toy, my 1,5 year old loves it because it moves and makes sounds, but for the purpose of "coding", they need to be at least 4-5

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good but loud
*by B***S on 4 April 2020*

Really good toy! Excellent for teaching a 4 year old sequences, basic coding principles and to some extent communication! The noise however... good lord it’s annoying! And so bleeding loud! I haven’t found a volume control yet and I’m tempted to open it up and disable the sound. Still... the kid likes it.
